What are people saying (AI review summary)? Goldfish Swim School receives mixed reviews. Many families praise the school for its effective water safety instruction, the development of children's love for swimming, and the progression of skills, with some children advancing to competitive swim teams. Instructors, like Geena and Kari, are frequently lauded for being attentive, friendly, and great with kids, including those initially afraid of water. The facility is generally described as clean, well-maintained, and featuring warm water, making it comfortable for children. However, significant concerns are raised about the value and operational aspects. Several reviewers find the lessons overpriced, especially given the limited water time children receive in 30-minute group classes (e.g., around 10 minutes), leading to slow progress. Private lessons or 'jumpstart clinics' are suggested as more effective for advancement. There were also negative experiences with billing, including being charged for unreceived lessons, and a mandatory 30-day cancellation policy. Some parents recommend alternative, more affordable private lessons through city programs for better value and faster progress.

Our family started at Goldfish 9 years ago. Our oldest progressed through the levels all the way to swim force. He left goldfish to train with the local swim team and is now a state qualifying swimmer at 10U. We started goldfish for water safety purposes and came out with two children who love swimming and have chosen it as their sport. Our youngest, recently graduated from goldfish also, making swim force at the age of 5. Both of our children have flourished at goldfish. We have been through many teachers, too many to count. However, have had phenomenal experiences with Geena and Kari. Geena is very helpful and always friendly. Kari is one of the best swim coaches our oldest swimmer has had. We are sad to leave our goldfish family after 9 years. 10/10 recommend Goldfish Ann Arbor for your young swimmer.
Edited review. We had been charged for almost a year of lessons we never received ($250 a month). The company eventually reached out with a solution we were happy with, and the teachers ARE great with kids, even kids afraid of the water. For the time, in a group class, your kid gets about 10 minutes in the water, and put in your cancellation a month before you want to end lessons-- they have a mandatory 30 day waiting period before cancellation is effective. Review would be 5 stars if that issue would be addressed and kids got more time in the water
Been coming here for a few months as a casual swimmer for my son since I live out of the area, but Grandma is nearby. The staff have always been nice 🙂 and very flexible with questions and changes. The program of pricing is a little confusing, but since we are able to do drop in and pay by the class, it's very convenient.
I wanted to love goldfish, but it was overpriced and the 30 min lessons with 4 kids in a class made it so the kids hardly ever got a turn to swim. It took my son forever to advance in their lessons bc of this . When we did the jumpstart clinics or private lessons, that is the only time I actually saw any progress. I took my son out of goldfish and started private lessons through the city of Ann Arbor and Mary Lou Murray and my son advanced quickly with more focused attention and swim time. The These other options were also so much cheaper than goldfish and you get more for your money. My son started on a swim team last year at age six and is diving and swimming 100m races now thanks to his progress once we left goldfish.
It’s a good swimming school for kids. Instructors are very good and always attentive. Poor area and water is always warm so kids have no problem in going into water. Clean and well maintained.
