The Berkshire Family YMCA - Pittsfield Branch, located at 292 North St, Pittsfield, MA, is a comprehensive community center offering a wide array of programs and facilities. It serves as a hub for health and wellness, providing fitness areas, group exercise classes, diverse aquatic programs with two pools, youth development initiatives including childcare and camps, and fosters community engagement for all ages.
The Pittsfield Branch features two distinct pools: the Main Pool is maintained at approximately 80 degrees Fahrenheit, suitable for lap swimming and water aerobics, while the Warm Water Pool is kept at a comfortable 90 degrees Fahrenheit, ideal for children, individuals with mobility challenges, relaxation, and specific swim lessons.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews present a mixed view of the facility, with some appreciating the swimming pools (often described as good or great) and the cleanliness of some locker rooms and showers. However, there are significant and recurring complaints primarily concerning customer service, administrative practices, and specific facility conditions. Issues with customer service include unhelpful front desk staff, incorrect information regarding schedules, a lack of basic courtesy (like reciprocating greetings), and serious grievances such as membership cancellation without explanation or refund. Administrative problems are highlighted through inadequate compensation or communication for facility shutdowns (e.g., pool closures), a lack of clear signage for operational issues, and a perceived failure to utilize available tools for accurate scheduling. Facility-specific complaints include excessively loud music in the 'wellness center' causing anxiety, and the consistently poor and unaddressed condition of the men's locker room, which members fear will not be included in upcoming renovation plans despite being outdated for decades.

Updste: we all have bad days and i think understanding works both ways, I can have understanding for the people that work here in the same way they have understanding for me. I still have these suggestions but overall i like it here. Two suggestions one there is no reason the music in the wellness center should be blasting so loud it triggers an anxiety attack, that defeats the purpose of the "wellness center". Two when a customer walks out and says have a good day, customarily a reciprocal response is appropriate.
Pool is pretty good. But the reasons for complaint continue. September 2025. The pool had just opened after 2 weeks shut down. So naturally I expected the pay date to be shifted by 2 weeks, to compensate for 2 weeks loss of use. However the girl at the front desk, named Melissa, insisted that I had to pay. Because: 1. "They don't do refunds". I wasn't asking for a refund. 2. "There was an ample warning of the shutdow". So, does this allow someone to take my money for not providing service? 3. "The was an alternative at BCC pool". No one told me that. The bottom line, this was a deceitful answer. YMCA must be better. The simple and fair answer was to extend the pay date by 2 weeks, instead of making customers feel duped.
They have people at the entrance who do not provide excellent customer service, they are only there to register and not help people, I paid for an annual membership and suddenly they took it away from me without any explanation and without returning the money I paid. My children had a bad time
The pool, locker room and showers are clean and well-maintained. However, when I called to check lap times, the front desk staff is very nice but gave me wrong information twice. The manager explained that all 3 ymca’s are connected so when you call it may not be the location you’re looking for. Did they ever think of using the computer to check the schedule? Also, they don’t post signs at the desk when you check in to alert you to any problems. Very poor administration.
Nice facility with great swimming pool but men's locker room and lockers are in terrible shape. I've been a member for around 45 years and I don't believe the men's locker room has ever been upgraded. Worst yet, I've been told by the front desk personnel that upgrading the men's locker room is not planned as part of the upcoming 4 million dollar upgrade of the whole building. I couldn't believe it! I am hoping that they are wrong and that we will get a new or refurbished locker room.
