What are people saying (AI review summary)? The Belen Eagles Natatorium generally receives high praise for its large, well-maintained outdoor pool, featuring clear, pleasantly warm water and amenities like diving boards, shaded areas, and ample parking. Reviewers consistently highlight the facility's cleanliness, with spotless locker rooms and a fresh pool scent. Office staff are described as professional and knowledgeable, while lifeguards are watchful and not overly strict. The pool's common-sense rules, including a humorously detailed instruction to shower thoroughly, add to its unique character. Despite overall positive experiences, concerns include a strong objection to the rumored closure of the outdoor pool by the school board and a specific complaint about one intimidating male staff member. Additionally, one review, while positive, appeared to describe features of another indoor facility on the high school campus rather than the pool itself. Overall, visitors find it a relaxing and well-managed swimming destination.

SHHHH…Don’t Tell Anybody! 😊 Ok…I’m a swimmer, but do not (sadly!) have a lap pool at my home. So, in efforts to get into/ stay in shape as a lady over 50, I visit a few pools in the areas of Albuquerque and south as far as Belen for lap swimming and open swim time with my family. Now, I love the sunshine here in New Mexico, so outdoor swimming is my favorite. This pool opened for outdoor swimming in mid-June and it was so worth the wait. Located within the huge campus of Belen High School, there is ample parking. There are swim sessions for laps, as well as open swim time in the afternoons and early evenings. The office staff are all over 21– pleasant, professional, and knowledgeable. The cost isn’t bad, a couple of bucks. The office and female locker/shower rooms are spotless in appearance, and despite the humid indoor pool area adjacent— there is ZERO mildew smell, no scent of bleach/ pine-sol either. Noted only is the normal scent of clean pool water . Signage lists some very common sense rules/regulations— including multiple posters regarding: >No use of regular baby diapers while swimming, >All long hair being tied back or up, and >”Everybody must shower before entering the pool” The last one made me laugh, I’m talking a big belly laugh. A person may ask why all the details here…. Because there is a specific instruction IN RED on EACH poster listing the pre-swim showering policies, that states, all swimmers must wash while in showers, “ESPECIALLY THE REAR-END”. How can you not laugh at that?? And so, walking out of the lockers toward the pool, I was still giggling. Knowing the small crowd of kids and adults present were showered and washed—especially you-know-where! The pool itself is large and gorgeous. There are shaded areas and tables outside a fenced area that surrounds the water, and grassy areas as well on both sides. There are 2 diving boards including a (slightly) higher board. A dedicated lifeguard mans the dive pool area, there are 2 sitting guards and an unobtrusive walking guard at all times. The lifeguards were watchful, and not constantly blowing their whistles, nor were they continuously hollering at swimmers for this or that infraction. 3 wide Lanes separate diving /open swim areas. The water is clear and pleasantly warm, refreshing and doesn’t seem over-chlorinated. I noticed no music, and no food, drink, or glass is allowed within the fence. Because of the size and smaller town atmosphere (I suppose), noise levels seem lower and less echoed. There is another, separate set of locker/shower rooms outside as well. Lounge chairs (rickety, however), are available. This pool isn’t new, by any means, but has been obviously well cared for. Spending a couple hours on a Saturday afternoon was (surprisingly) very relaxing!! The 2 hour time frame was just right. So….follow the short but important list of rules, and observe the 2 hour session times. Belen Eagles Natatorium is, no doubt, one of the nicest pools I’ve ever been to. But Shhhh! Don’t tell anybody!!! 😊
So the Belen School Board wants to close the outdoor pool? What is with these people? I guess this is Belen doing what Belen does best, keeping the city down while Los Lunas continues to grow. That's why nobody stays, and why Main Street has more closed shops than open ones.
Great employees except for one heavy set male with beard kicks people stuff as he walks next to the pool I'm guessing hes a life guard or warden no need to intimidate the people
It was big, wood paneling looks exquisite. Very satisfying floor acoustics. Echo effect was on point. Seats are comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. Floor was slightly springy, not to slippery, but mostly hard. The entire building had pretty good heating, but feet get cold to easily, almost as if shoes are required. Great natural light allowed in through windows. The other lights were bright, while still remaining warm. The vending machines had limited selection, but were stocked and reasonably priced. 5 stars. 5 thumbs up. 5 gold chains. 5 golden rings. 1 Abraham Lincoln.
I have never been to the Belen High Pool, it was well worth it The kids enjoyed it had lots of fun The staff was very friendly and kind and took time to educate me, explain there sessions, time change, passes and show the grounds. I was amazed I had no idea they also had an outdoor Pool. Thank you.
