About

Clean indoor pool with a hot tub and lifeguards plus instructors for canoeing and kayaking too.

The Palmer Pool complex typically maintains different temperatures across its various aquatic features. The lap pool is generally kept cooler, often around 80-82°F (26.7-27.8°C), suitable for exercise. The leisure or warm water pool is usually warmer, approximately 90-92°F (32.2-33.3°C), ideal for therapy, young children, or relaxed recreation. The hot tub is significantly warmer, typically maintained at 102-104°F (38.9-40°C).

What are people saying (AI review summary)? The Palmer pool is highly praised for its cleanliness, well-maintained facilities, and suitability for various activities including lap swims, open family fun, and competitive training. It offers season passes, swim lessons, and party rentals. Many reviewers commend the staff and lifeguards for being friendly, capable, attentive, and serious about their roles, particularly noting the excellent instruction provided in specific programs like the Alaska Boating Safety course. The facility includes separate family changing rooms and lockers, and parking is available off Felton. However, some criticisms include lifeguards being overly attentive to the point of causing anxiety, a perception of some staff being unfriendly, and the environment being loud for toddlers. Suggestions for improvement include a dedicated small group area for special needs learning and drier locker-room floors.

Palmer pool is a great place for lap swims and open swim fun with the family. You can buy season passes, pay per visit, rent out for parties, and purchase swim lessons. The staff and lifeguards are freindly and capable. The facilities are always clean and they have separate family changing rooms and lockers.

Clean and well taken care of. We went on a lovely quiet day, basically no one else there. The guard was walking alongside us swimming the entire time. I get the job, but it’s a little overkill to walk alongside you as you’re swimming. I made a complaint after the session, she said a heart attack might happen any time so that’s why she was walking alongside us. Not very enjoyable and if you ask me, that kind of “guarding” might give one anxiety to the point of heart attack! Went later that week, more people so less walking alongside you as you’re swimming. Most staff seems angry and you never see a smile. Which is sad considering this is supposed to be a family friendly activity in the small town of Palmer.

Clean pool & very attentive lifeguards. Only two improvements I would make: small group area for learning with special needs & drier locker-room floor please!

Took an excellent class there put on through the Alaska Boating Safety program. Annie, who is the education coordinator, and the entire team did a fantastic job teaching all ages and abilities how to feel safer and more confident in the water. We tried paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking and pack rafting…learning self rescue and general rescue procedures and we learned serval paddling techniques. It was a three hour program with an hour learning and two hours in the water. Well worth the time for anyone who plans to spend time in Alaska waters. While this program didn’t focus on rivers or oceans, the instructors are top notch and can provide resources for all questions if they don’t have the answers. The pool itself is great, fun for community families but designed with training and racing in mind (as evidenced by the many championship banners hanging from the walls). The lifeguards were plentiful and took their jobs seriously. Between the pool staff and the program staff, all were in excellent care! The pool parking is around the building, off of Felton.
