What are people saying (AI review summary)? Black Forest Family Campground generally receives high praise for its beautiful, peaceful, and scenic location in the woods near DuPont State Park, offering easy access to waterfalls and hiking. Guests frequently commend the owners and staff as kind, welcoming, friendly, helpful, and accommodating, contributing to a warm atmosphere. The campground boasts numerous amenities including a large, refreshing pool, a convenient store, level sites with full hookups, and cabins. Many enjoy activities like swimming, campfires, and seeing fireflies, with some mentioning an ice cream social. Despite some 2024 hurricane damage delaying repairs to certain facilities, they remained usable. However, one significant negative review highlighted an extremely poor experience with front desk staff regarding strict policies on early bathroom access, an argumentative check-in process over a key deposit, and perceived unfriendliness, leading to a recommendation to stay elsewhere.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Black Forest Family Campground in North Carolina, and I can’t say enough good things about it! The family who owns the campground is incredibly kind and welcoming. The campground itself is nestled in the woods near DuPont State Park, offering a peaceful and scenic escape. With over a hundred campsites, there’s plenty of room, and the amenities are fantastic, from a refreshing pool to a convenient store that’s open until 10 at night. Overall, it’s a warm and friendly place to stay, and I can’t wait to go back!

Our second visit here was equally memorable and we look forward to coming back again next year! Haven’t found a better place to escape the heat of FL than this location. There were warm enough days to play in the mountains streams and many waterfalls and yet cool enough to enjoy hikes and campfires. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The campground is pristine and the large pool was an extra treat for our grandkids, along with the Saturday ice cream social. The owners have suffered from the cost of clearing the many trees that fell during the 2024 hurricane, though tree loss is unnoticeable in such a dense forest, postponing much needed repairs to the games & laundry building. But we still were able to get our laundry done, and enjoy a few games of air hockey. We always enjoyed the beautiful drive to town, and were blessed to observe both glassblowing and pottery demonstrations by kind and skillful artisans along the way. Treated ourselves to the BEST TROUT in Brevard at The Blind Mule. We love Black Forest Family Resort, which is in itself a beautiful sight to see.

This is a great campground. Spent the day out hiking to various waterfalls and exploring Brevard and the nights hanging at the pool and enjoying the fireflies. Sites are level, staff is attentive and knowledgeable and full hookups available. Would definitely recommend if looking for a great family friendly spot in the area.

NOT (family) FRIENDLY - My two children and I showed up 2.5 hours early because we had to use the bathroom (there is not an easy place to stop in that area). The front desk ladies would not allow us to do so, even though we were prepaid and pre-registered. They said we’d have to pay a half-day rate ($40+) to use the toilet! After we killed time until check-in, we returned and were argued with about the key deposit and I began to cry. They could’ve cared less. They accused me of throwing things at them (I tossed my credit card on the desk so they could hold it instead of my $4.77 - make sure you have that $5.00 cash, boy!) and I told them, still in tears, that I’d cancel if I could. They told me “no refunds” and I walked out with them still talking about me to one another in the front office - deplorable. I am now at a Holiday Inn Express in Brevard with a lovely saline pool that my kids and I are enjoying - do yourself a favor and stay here instead! They will be kinder to you and your family!

What a fun experience with my family! We stayed in a cabin, had fun in the pool, played air hockey and foosball, watched the fireflies, grilled on the camp site fire grill, and made s’mores, I mean… it was pretty much the perfect trip! Very close to waterfalls and hikes. The office staff is so sweet and accommodating! We will definitely be back!
