What are people saying (AI review summary)? Hominy Valley Pool elicits mixed feedback from visitors. Many commend it as the 'best pool in Buncombe County,' appreciating its varied depths suitable for all ages (from zero-depth entry to a 10-foot deep end), clean locker rooms, $3 entry fee, and available shaded areas. Some also highlight a friendly atmosphere and beautiful views. However, a significant portion of the criticism centers on staff performance, with complaints about lifeguards being inattentive, playing loud music that interferes with safety protocols (like hearing thunder), and inconsistently enforcing rules (e.g., staff running when guests are prohibited). Other concerns include a need for more seating and shade, and a common request for the pool to extend its operating season until after Labor Day.

I have been enjoying Hominy Valley Pool since I was a child when there were two diving boards! Of course the current configuration is nothing like the olden days, however it remains the best pool in Buncombe County in my opinion. The large pool has a zero depth entry ramp for tiny people, a large 3’ play area that turns to 5’ then drops into a 10’ deep end. There are two large shaded areas on the grass adjacent to the shallow end. Bring your own chairs or blankets, but no pool floats permitted. They call adult swim the last ten minutes of each hour. The locker rooms/showers are clean. $3 entry and the ice cream truck stops by daily. My only complaint is I wish they would remain open weekends until after Labor Day.
This pool is kinda underrated, me and my friend go here all the time and we love it. We went to the pool on July 4th together and this girl came up to us and asked me and her to play mermaids with her. She was so nice to us, and I have no opinion on the staff because I’ve never had any bad or good experiences with the staff. I love this pool and always will.
Our experience of this facility is absolutely terrible. They made up hearing thunder and kept us out longer than what the rules state. The staff can’t hear thunder because they a playing loud music and the staff are playing games and the guy lifeguard has been playing with his other friends and not working at all. When questioned how much longer till we could swim they bold face lied and said they just heard it but when I was at the office the music was so loud I couldn’t even hear myself talking. So how can you hear thunder when the music is so loud? Also when the employees were playing around they were running around to catch the ball. No running is allowed and this rule is sticky followed but the rules don’t apply for the employees? They should follow what they enforce because it gives guests the wrong impression. It was also stated they were waiting for our group to leave before they would allow the others to get back into the pool.
Open back up until labor day please
Beautiful views, staff is ok. More seating and shade needed. Ot is at a premium for sure.
