What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews for the public pool present a mixed, but largely positive and passionate, view. Many praise it as an affordable and essential community resource, particularly beneficial for families with toddlers due to its shallow end and for general relaxation during hot weather. Positive comments frequently highlight the nice pool itself, friendly and effective lifeguards, and generally clean bathrooms. However, significant criticisms point to the facility's aging infrastructure, specifically dilapidated locker rooms with rusted fixtures and broken changing room doors. Other common complaints include poor parking, issues with the grass seating area (uncut, leading to bee stings), and occasional staff training issues. A prominent theme across several reviews is the urgent need for renovation and rebuilding, with some reviewers criticizing the city for long-term neglect of this vital public good that serves a diverse working-class neighborhood.

The one girl taking payments didn't kmow how to properly operate the credit card swipe, I had to remind her twice that she had to hold the tablet up so that I could swipe my card. The grass was way to high to even lay down in...what in the world?
An actually nice public pool for only $3 per visit??? Wow!! I come here ALL the time and it's so nice to come and read a book in my bikini and soak up the sun! Grateful that they exist :)
The pool is nice. Life guards are nice and do a good job. Stinks that the pool seating area is grass, two of my kids were stung by bees the first hour we were there, just walking to the pool from our towel in the grass. Parking is horrible. Locker rooms needed to be fixed 5 years ago. Rusted metal bars. None of the changing room doors would stay closed in the men's room.
Essential historic public good and core city service. Was never open long enough and was never utilized fully by the parks and rec department. Asheville parks and rec, city manager and council knew as early as 2015 (if not sooner) that it would require capital funding to rebuild this pool, and they did nothing to plan for that eventuality, but patch and pretend it was fine, for nearly a decade. Multiple apartment complexes and a diverse working class neighborhood is served by and loves this pool, within walking distance. It is a core resource for the entire city. We simply MUST rebuild it, now.
This was the hottest summer on record in Asheville and the Malvern hills pool saved our family's life. The shallow end starts at 1 foot. So it's great for toddlers to get their sea legs. The staff is very friendly. The bathrooms were always clean. A great place to beat the heat.
