The Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center (CBAC), located at the Student Recreational Sports Center in Bloomington, IN, is a premier aquatic facility part of Indiana University. It features a 50-meter competition pool and a separate diving well with multiple platforms and springboards, serving as a venue for recreational swimming, swim lessons, varsity swimming & diving, club sports, and various national competitions.
The main 50-meter competition pool at CBAC is typically maintained at 79-80 degrees Fahrenheit (approximately 26-27 degrees Celsius). The separate diving well is usually kept slightly warmer, ranging from 80-82 degrees Fahrenheit (approximately 26.7-27.8 degrees Celsius).
What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for the facility are mixed, highlighting both significant positive and negative experiences. Positively, many users praise the friendly and helpful IU staff, with specific mentions of female staff members and a tour guide named Grace. The facility itself is described as beautiful, with users enjoying the deeper, warmer swimming pools and the opportunity to dive in deep water. One user also had a positive experience with a swim clinic. However, there are serious complaints regarding the scheduling of swim lessons, with one user paying $160 but receiving no contact from an instructor for 12 days. The refund process is also criticized as inconvenient, requiring an in-person visit. This lack of follow-up and poor customer service in specific areas is attributed to leadership issues by one reviewer.

IU female staff is very nice! You look very nice and beautiful to work with and/or hangout with! Also your deeper warmer swimming pool that you work at when you’re at the Student Recreational Sports Center is very pretty nice and beautiful to swim in! I love it!❤️💕🥰👍🙂
Very poor response with getting scheduled for swim lessons. They were very proficient at charging for the cost of the class. $160.00 paid and twelve days later, still no contact by a swim instructor for the prepaid personal swim lessons to schedule the sessions. If this represents their normal business plan, save your money and go elsewhere. And to get your prepaid amount refunded, you MUST (no exceptions) come personally to the center. That’s a two hour drive (round trip) in my case. Final thought: It appears to be a leadership issue. Expectations of the assistant director are very low. I’ve expressed my concerns to this person, and was promised follow up, and I still did not get that scheduling call. Do not drown in their lack of customer service. Consider other locations, before getting on this frustrating venture.
IU Staff very friendly. Had a tour of the whole facility by a nice young woman named Grace. Lost earring & they even found back & let us back track to find the front. Beautiful facility.
I loved diving in the water! I was able to touch the bottom of the 14 feet deep water and 18 feet deep water too! I loved it! I was able to hold my breath underwater for that long too! Loved it!🐋💦🐳🦈💧❤️💕🥰🌊🐟🐬
A great school and so glad that my 12 year old son was able to participate in a swim clinic held by Connor Jaeger.
