This facility is older than some of the other gyms around, but I personally love the Rec Center. I have a membership, and I definitely feel I get my money's worth out of it. I love the exercise classes and the personal trainers I have worked with. The pool area could use some updating, but I believe they are slowly trying to make updates. My only complaint is that there isn't much for a kid to do between the ages of 6-14 while you work out unless they are in a tumbling class or something similar. But, overall, I really enjoy the Rec Center!
I've been to many big local gyms and this is by far my favorite one. It is very clean and they have enough space for a lot of people. Everything always works and is being maintained. I get very frustrated going to other gyms and their sauna or pool is broken for 6 months straight. Hardware Rec Center really takes care of their own.
Just completed swimming lessons for our 4 yr old granddaughter at outdoor pool. Lessons were at 930 with Maddie. Instructor was amazing. Class size was perfect. Pool temp was so cold that she shivered the whole time and afterwards. It took awhile to warm her back up. Not for sure if it was time of day or actual pool temp. We ended up only taking her about 4 out 8 times because of pool temp. Next time we will sign her up for afternoon possibly.
Usually it’s a super good experience or bad experience that prompts one to post a review. I like the deep pool and the opportunity for Water Aerobics where you continually tread water for a good workout. Unfortunately I’ve experienced two situations, and now a third that have moved me to comment about my frustration. Over two years ago, I attended a deep pool class in the evening, and I was the only attendee. The instructor told me if no one else showed up she was not going to teach the class. Frustrated because I knew she gets paid regardless of the number of participants that showed up. I left my comments with the supervisor -thus I presume ended any deep water class being offered in the evenings from that point on. Then, after discovering the 6 AM water aerobics class, I often would stay afterwards and want to do laps in the deep pool I was already in, mainly because the lap pools were already full (and at that time the swim team was not sharing lanes.) I was asked to get out or the water by the lifeguard when the instructor finished the Aerobics Class, explaining-that the lifeguards were not able to keep their eye on us while in the deep pool. (What?) Which raises the question why aren’t they watching us during our class? There are two of them that habitually sit together on the deck ( not in the lifeguard stand) and talk while watching the lap swimmers but rarely if ever look over for our safety or security in the deep pool. If they separated and sat in the stand, they would be able to see us if a crisis were to occur. Now I learned that on the 4th of July, 2025 the center is open, from 5am to 4pm. However the 6am class is canceled. Why? Two other water classes are offered that day, the center is open. As far as I know, the instructor was available, but the signage indicates the early class would not be offered . It’s frustrating to not have consistently or reasoning or consideration for the members that use the facilities.
The facility is getting older, but still well maintained. The gym works. Plenty of machine and free weight options. Pools are decent.
