The La Porte City Family Aquatic Center, opened in June 2008, is a family-friendly aquatic facility located at 508 Oak St, La Porte City, IA. It features a main pool with zero-depth entry and depths up to 5 feet, a diving board, a 20-foot water slide, a 15-foot drop slide, and a splash and play structure. A separate baby pool is also available for children aged 5 and under.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? The pool generally receives positive feedback, described as a fun, clean, and well-staffed facility suitable for all ages. It features zero-entry for young children, shallow and deep ends (up to 12 feet) with multiple diving boards, and a waterslide. Concessions are available, and locker rooms include convenient amenities like baby chairs. Services like lap swimming, swim lessons, and pool party bookings are offered. Admission is $4 per person, free for children under two, with season passes available (cash only). However, one detailed review expressed serious concerns regarding a staff interaction where a family was asked to leave after a child vomited. The parents reported staff being visibly frustrated, making generalized and dismissive comments about their children's behavior, and potentially demonstrating racial bias, leading them to request an investigation into staff conduct and fair treatment for all guests, particularly children of color. Other minor notes include that the water is not heated and bathrooms are considered "okay" and maintained.

I am writing to formally express my concerns about an incident that occurred during my family’s recent visit to your pool on July 23rd, 2025 While we were at the pool, my young daughter became sick and vomited both in the pool and on the side. I immediately informed a staff member, who appeared visibly upset and proceeded to clean the area with noticeable frustration. She then told me that I needed to leave the facility with my daughter. At that point, we were with about six other children, and I respectfully asked if my daughter could simply sit out while the rest of the kids finished swimming. Another staff member then joined the conversation and said that our children “don’t listen” and brought up previous behavior issues. This came as a surprise to both me and my wife, as we were never approached before with any concerns about our children’s behavior. We are always present and actively supervise them—my wife typically stays at one side of the pool while I watch from the other. Our kids are confident swimmers, and like many children, they enjoy activities like jumping off the diving board and playing with pool toys. What concerned us most was the way the staff handled the situation, especially the generalizations made about our children and the comment that “every time your kids come, they don’t listen.” This felt like a judgment that went beyond the incident at hand. Given that our children are Black, we are left wondering whether this situation—and the comments made—may have been influenced by bias or discriminatory assumptions. We believe all families should be treated fairly, respectfully, and without prejudice. At no point were we ever warned or given the chance to address any behavioral concerns, if there were any. Being asked to leave immediately, paired with dismissive and generalized comments about our children, felt unjust and inappropriate. I respectfully ask that you look into how this situation was handled and how your staff communicates with families in the future. We want to ensure that all guests—especially children of color—feel welcome, safe, and fairly treated at your facility.

4$ per person. Shallow end that goes up to thee feet and deep end with two diving boards that goes to twelve feet. There os a big diving board and a smaller one. They have concessions. The bathrooms are okay, better than the ones at Burns. They were washing the bathrooms whilst we were leaving.

Great pool! Babies first pool visit today and he had a blast!! Free under 2, $4 per visit or get a season pass. Cash only! Zero-entry means my 11 month old can sit/stand in the shallow area, or I can take him into the deeper end. Lap swimming in the mornings, swim lessons for 4+ years, and pool parties can be booked. Clean pool, well staffed, and the locker rooms even have one of those wall mounted chairs to contain my little one while I get pool ready. Will be a favorite activity of ours for a long time!

Love this small town pool. Zero entry is great for younger kids. Diving boards and big slide are great for older kids and adults.

A fun place to visit and play in the water. There are high diving boards, a waterslide and a great place for kids to play. As a note, the water isn't heated.
