What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews present a mixed view of the facility. Positively, the 'Healthy Kids Day' event received high praise for its exceptional organization, engaging staff, and impressive face painting. Conversely, numerous negative experiences were reported. Common complaints include inconsistent and limited operating hours compared to other locations and competitors, unexpected closures for maintenance, and inconvenient access points that are not disabled-friendly. Several incidents highlighted staff issues, specifically security and lifeguards, who were described as pushy or harassing regarding closing times and pool usage, leading to negative experiences for families, particularly those with special needs children, and discouraging young swimmers. Furthermore, members noted that despite being a new facility with premium pricing, it lacks amenities like saunas/steam rooms, has limited pool lanes, and a smaller gym often requiring waits for equipment, leading to a perception of poor value and an overall less welcoming atmosphere compared to other locations and competitors.

My daughter and I took my twin grandkids to Healthy Kids Day and we were so incredibly impressed! What a well oiled machine! And every single one of the young men working with them were exceptional!! They made it so fun for the little ones and even seemed to be having fun themselves! And the face painter is the best we've ever seen! These were the faces on my grandchildren the entire time! Thank you so much!

Update we have been coming for awhile now. We check to make sure what time they close to try and not have that issue again. I spoke with staff about the incident and they apologized. We haven't had any issues since our first day. I think the reason they are so pushy is that they aren't allowed to stay very long but have to have the place clean when people are there that would make it difficult. Basically sounds like an issue with not giving working people the time they need and probably not wanting to spend the money to staff them. One thing about this location that irritates me still to this day is they don't allow people to come in from the back entrance so we have to go all the way around. We come here for picnics and for the kids to play in the back. But it makes it more difficult because they aren't as coordinated and its not disabled friendly that way. First time coming on a Friday. We came to play in the pool. I have 3 special needs boys. I gave them showers and got them dressed afterwards. We normally go to the other YMCA location A guy came in the room (we go in the family room) and said hello. I said hello back. He was standing by the cleaning stuff. So I thought he was a cleaner. He said we were here past the time that they closed. I told him I wasn't aware. The other locations dont close till 10pm. So I was taken back by that. We were heading to the elevators but the guy kept repeating himself and following us. I told him to stop. That at this point its harassment. He wouldn't stop I told him I'm going as fast as possible. That they are special needs. He said that I scared him that he's security. He didn't have a security outfit on. After he kept following me and harassing me and my kids. I told him I could have his job for this. He continued so I took his picture. I'll be talking to someone about this.

This YMCA needs to update into the 20th century. With competitors like Planet Fitness who offer lower prices and expanded hours, not to mention often double the amount of equipment, I'm not sure how they're going to be able to compete. Today, I waited until 9am because the Loves Park YMCA doesn't open until 9am on Sundays. When I got there, there was a sign on the door saying that they are closed for the next three days for maintenance. Really? Three days to sweep the floors? If you're going to charge a premium price, you need to offer premium service vs. limited hours and a tiny workout room.

For as new as it is this location should have a sauna/steam room. The pool only has one or two lap lanes open and a life guard is at the end of the lane watching your every stroke. The gym is ok, however felt like I was being watched constantly and had to wait for equipment more than at the river location. Do yourself a favor and go to the Swedish American location on the river. Better overall vibe!

"I was trying to teach my 7-year-old daughter to swim in one of the lap lanes, but the lifeguard kept telling us to go faster or move to the other side of the pool. Despite there being an empty lane, they continued to bother us, and eventually, my daughter lost interest in swimming. She even said she wouldn't go back to the pool again, which made me decide to cancel our membership. I'm willing to pay a bit more at The Peak, where we can enjoy our time without distractions.
