About

The Portales City Swimming Pool, located at 320 E 7th St, Portales, NM, is a public outdoor aquatic facility typically open during summer months. It offers recreational swimming for the community, often featuring a main pool and sometimes a separate shallow area for younger children.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews paint a mixed and largely negative picture of the facility, with the overarching issue being that it has been *closed for many years*, much to the disappointment of the community. When it was operational, some patrons found it to be very family-oriented, with lifeguards on duty, multiple pools (including a baby pool), and reportedly kept safe and clean. However, significant criticisms include a staff member telling patrons to hurry up and leave, and severe concerns about safety and hygiene. Multiple reviewers cited disrespectful and negligent lifeguards who allegedly ignored a child in pain and laughed at patrons, along with reports of cockroaches in locker rooms and a tampon in the pool. Other complaints focused on a poor snack bar selection, limited seating and shade, absence of diving boards, problematic showers, and limited unshaded tanning chairs. Suggestions for improvement included investing in a better snack bar, creating a padded dive area, increasing daily hours, and adjusting pricing.

Pros/Cons: Music played over loudspeaker/loudspeaker are the same ones from my childhood (80s). Snack bar/laughable selection and limited seating and no shade Diving well/no diving boards Shower area/super hot water and doesn't spray Lifeguards provided/mandatory pool Evacuation (break) should be handled differently. Tanning chairs provided/ limited and no shaded areas. * Create a padded floor area adjacent to dive pool (where dive board used to be). Raised areas (spring Board's)could easily and safely be incorporated. Would allow diving from safe padded area. * Cut entrance price by half and invest in a well stocked, wide variety snack bar. Soda machine, icee machine, nachos, hot dogs, fries. * Increase daily hours

NOT A SAFE PLACE FOR. CHILDREN.TERRIBLE... Lifeguards had no respect to patrons nor to their responsibility as a lifeguard. We reported them to the supervisor who claimed to "taken care of it." But when we looked at the lifeguards they would laugh amd make fun of us. At one point a child had a goat head lodged in its foot screaming in pain, the guard sat and watched as the parent walked over to help the child. We reported that there were cockroaches in the locker room. And a tampon in the pool. They held no regard as to what happend. And didnt care. NOT A SAFE PLACE FOR CHILDREN.

Closed. Has been closed for many years at this point. Too bad too as it would be a great community asset in these 90-100 degree days! Residence have to drive to Muleshoe for outdoor recreation pool or Clovis.
