About

The Southeastern Indiana YMCA, located at 30 IN-129 S, Batesville, IN 47006, USA, is a community-focused organization dedicated to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. It offers a wide array of programs and facilities for all ages, including a fitness center, group exercise classes, sports leagues, childcare services, and extensive aquatics programs.

While specific daily temperatures may vary, YMCAs typically maintain their lap or multi-purpose pools at comfortable levels, often ranging from 80-82°F (26.7-27.8°C), and warmer instructional or therapy pools around 86-88°F (30-31.1°C) to accommodate various activities and age groups.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for the YMCA are mixed, with many highlighting strong positive aspects while others express significant frustration with policies. On the positive side, members consistently praise the YMCA for its strong sense of community, friendly and personal staff interactions, well-maintained and clean facilities, good selection of equipment, and diverse group fitness classes, including options for various health conditions. Many appreciate feeling welcomed and known by staff and fellow members, describing it as a place where they feel a strong sense of belonging and connection. However, some negative experiences revolve around administrative policies. These include frustration over being required to provide references for activities, and issues with membership transfers leading to double billing and subsequent refusal of refunds based on what members perceive as unfair policies, especially for long-term members. A minor critique noted dusty lockers.

I was going to fulfil my experiment with the gymnasts that were there but if it wasn’t for the references that I didn’t have and then put into matter of going and then forced to put in references. I don’t agree with that! I know you do but some people don’t deal with just what asking for. I have enough to deal with if someone’s interested you let them be something not nervous as to why we have to speak to someone and then put into class and then ask to provide references. I felt forced in this situation and I’m not doing it!! Plain simple !

After being a member of Batesville for +25 years we needed to change membership to Greensburg. We were told to get a letter of good standing in order to change which we did . No other instructions were given so I assumed that would cancel our membership. But both Y membership payments came out in the next month for both locations. Batesville will not issue me a refund as they claim this is their policy. Very bad policy in my opinion. Especially after being a member all those years.

I grew up coming to this Y! It was always a good place to hang out with friends after school or on summer break. I also took gymnastics classes and swim lessons there growing up. There was always a really great sense of community and now, I work for this same Y and I can tell you that is still there and strong! Employees at the front desk and in the fitness area actually take the time to learn your name and talk to you, especially if you come in with regularity. When I was a kid, I loved how everyone just seemed to know me and I always felt welcome and it still feels that way today, regardless of if I'm there to work or to workout, you can guarantee that someone is going to say hi and ask how I am, maybe even follow up on something I forgot I even told them last time we talked. I never thought of it as "social responsibility" when i was younger, but it is part of what the Y says they stand for today and it makes sense. The amount of kids I see come in who are genuinely friendly, stop and talk to staff they've gotten to know over time, and holding doors for others while wishing them a good day as they leave is very refreshing in today's world and makes the youth that come to the Y stand out to me. And if you're into group fitness classes, things from Zumba, to Water aerobics, and yoga are all free to members and there are also classes for people with heart problems, Parkinson's and more. When I was about 16 I joined a group class called Cardio combo thinking it would be easy because some of the members in there were old enough to be my grandparents, boy was I wrong! They showed me just how out of shape I was (haha) but I got the hang of it and made a couple friends, "R" and her husband. When that instructor left, the class was discontinued but fast forward to about 13 years later, I started attending a water class on Monday and Thursday nights and after a few weeks I noticed a familiar face. Though her husband had since passed, "R", just like me, had circled back to the Y family and it's been so nice catching up with her and making new friendships as well. I'm glad to be on a first name basis with a lot of members and sometimes I feel a bit like I'm living that song from "Cheers" when they say "sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name". For me, that place is my Y. The same Y community I grew up in and the Y community I'm glad to be a member of now. If you think this sounds cheesy or like i have to say this because I'm employed there, I highly encourage visiting a time or two and seeing for yourself. You might find it's the perfect place for you and your family as well.

I was in town visiting from out of state for a couple weeks and came across this YMCA in town. Cannot say enough great things from the staff being incredibly friendly, all the facilities were well maintained and clean, they had a great selection of work out equipment athletic areas etc.. cannot recommend enough!

Nice Friendly staff, they all have smiles, clean place, nice equipment. Lockers could be cleaned better dusty inside. Prolly just use the same one and bring Lysol wipe to clean out myself.
