Chain fitness center offering an indoor pool, basketball court, sauna, and child care.
The Goldsboro Family YMCA features two distinct aquatic facilities: a Lap Pool and a Warm Water Teaching Pool. While specific daily temperatures are not explicitly published on their public website, YMCAs generally maintain their lap pools at a comfortable temperature for swimming, typically between 79-82°F (26-28°C), and their warm water teaching or therapy pools at a higher temperature, usually between 88-92°F (31-33°C), suitable for lessons, therapy, and younger children.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews reveal significant dissatisfaction with the YMCA, primarily due to issues with staff professionalism, facility condition, and financial practices. Many customers report rude and unhelpful front staff, with manager Rhonda specifically cited for a negative attitude and difficulty in processing refunds for canceled classes. However, one review offers a contrasting positive view, praising Ronda and staff for being amazing and welcoming. The facility is consistently described as outdated and poorly maintained, featuring old/broken equipment and non-functional air conditioning, leading to concerns about high membership fees for inadequate amenities. Additionally, there are serious complaints regarding misleading camp descriptions, poor management of children leading to harassment, unfulfilled promises for refunds, and allegations of being 'scammed' out of hundreds of dollars.

Have been going here for years and recently had taken a turn for the worse! Membership is too high for the state of equipment, but putting that aside, when I showed up this morning, a staff member of theirs, Alexandra, was incredibly rude and made my family not feel welcome in their so “welcoming environment.” I wouldn’t usually make a big deal of this, but this isn’t the first time I have been belittled here! I am now looking into other gyms, as their staffing and overall management has taken quite a turn. I suggest anyone looking into this facility do the same.
Not all the front staff, but quite a few have the worst attitudes. I signed up for a YMCA class & the employee helping me asked me to pay for the class which I did at HER request. Come to find out the class was canceled. You’d think getting my money back for the class that never happened would be a piece of cake - NOT even close. The front staff acted as if I was the problem asking for my money back for a class they canceled. I was told in a snippy way by the “manager” Rhonda that my refund would be complete in 10 - 14 days. That was nearly TWO months ago. When I would go in to check on the status of the refund Rhonda dreaded seeing me which is interesting because I didn’t create this issue - her employee did. Jessica who called me about the refund was professional & kind. If Rhonda hates dealing with customers she should find a new job. It’s not my fault your employee charged me for something she shouldn’t have. My advice: DO NOT pay for a class or camp until the day it is actually occurring. You can register without paying until the actual class occurs. However, I will never step foot in this place again at least not while that front staff is there. I have friends that come here & they say the same- the front staff most of the time is annoyed when they have to assist people. If you don’t like working or dealing with the public go find a new job. You are losing potential clients because of who you have running the front. Good Luck!
Ronda and the staff at the YMCA are simply amazing!!! But Ronda does go about and beyond her position as a Customer Specialist Supervisor!!! Her ability to make not only myself and family feel welcomed every time we attend, but all individuals and families as well. This why I continue to attend and use the YMCA facility as my place of health fitness.
Essentially stole my money. From an extremely misleading camp description, to poor management of kids and allowing harassment between kids. From claiming they would refund future classes(which I haven't received a month later), to telling me day of that my kid couldn't participate because we owed the payment(when we paid in full at sign up). This place is a completey aweful and has somehow scammed me out of $600+ dollars. Go anywhere else, and I mean anywhere. Stay far far away.
This YMCA is outdated and poorly maintained. The equipment is old, some of it broken, and the air conditioning is barely functional—making workouts pretty miserable. The facility really needs a major upgrade. Do not recommend.
