We had a fantastic time camping here. We lucked out and managed to get a full hook up RV site in a spot called the eagle's nest. It was difficult to find on the map, and was not clearly marked, but once we finally found it, we were pleased that it was large and secluded and had a Creek running alongside... which also means mosquitoes.. So you may want to be prepared for that. Thankfully , we had some essential oil mosquito repellent on hand. We made reservations to swim two of the evenings that we were camping. The mineral water was amazing.. If you are not. Used to that sort of a thing, be aware that it initiallysmells strong until you're used to it, or have a positive association. It will also severely tarnish any silver jewelry you are wearing, I learned that. The evening swim is adult only in clothing optional , I will say that more than half of the folks there chose to go full nude. So be prepared. There is a fantastic sauna and steam shower that are pretty great. The garden grounds and property was so peaceful and relaxing, the birds were singing the entire time. This is a very natural healing space. It's not a polished cookie cutter campground. The staff were more than impressive each and every person that we interacted with was professional, knowledgeable, helpful and really friendly. There is no drugs, alcohol, or smoking allowed on the common grounds which is nice to be able to camp and swim without of a bunch of loud, obnoxious people causing problems. We were bummed that there were not fire rings in each camp site. They do have some common fire rings though we did not navigate there. Also, we went during the time of year that cotton was heavily floating around in the air, so if you have any type of allergies , you may wanna be prepared for that. We brought our bikes and were able to find a nice bike path that took us into downtown Ashland where we hung out for a bit on two of the days that we camped. I would recommend this place to any of my family and friends.
I appreciate the affordable camping ($25) and hot springs ($10) access. However, be aware that the smell of sulfer is very strong, especially in the shower area. It made me nauseous. The water pressure is also quite low so it is hard to feel clean. I also did not like seeing green algae like things in the water. But you get what you pay for. It feels like a long standing community offering and I appreciate the hippie vibes.
**they deleted my initial review calling out this place for NOT being safe for women*** (posted below): I would not recommend staying here alone as a woman. I explored the temples on the property, and found the Oak Temple dedicated to “the sacred masculine experience” where one of the rules was “CONSENT: highly encouraged”. Bro what?? Could just be thoughtless wording, but amidst already feeling uneasy about the camping situation this sign confirmed my desire to leave ASAP. The spiritual down-to-earth hippie vibes, that I and many others love, can sometimes be interwoven with some scary ideologies and this seemed indicative of that. Pack pepper spray or whatever you need to feel safe, or stay elsewhere.
I wish I could give this place more than 2 stars. But our camping experience here brought the rating waaaay down. It was in March and the rainy season so I expect mud. But the huge potholes created horrible conditions. You could barely drive around and walking was nearly impossible without knee high rubber boots. It seems a truckload of gravel to go a long way to make this more hospitable. We honestly couldn’t wait to leave. The hot springs pool was very nice and the locker room there was clean. Very cold tho - I don’t think there is any heat in the locker room. I would not go back here.
This place is beloved. We hope it stays open forever! The staff is kind and one can tell there's a lot of heart put in. And we LOVE the quality of events they host and that they're so family-friendly. That said, it does need some renovation amd refreshing. Also, we can't wait for a restaurant to return. Planning on returning with the rest of the family despite a 3.5 hour drive.
