About

Swift Run Pool is a popular natural swimming hole located near Elkton, Virginia, often associated with Swift Run Gap in the Shenandoah National Park area. It features natural pools formed by Swift Run creek, offering a refreshing spot for swimming and wading, especially during warmer months. It is an outdoor recreational area popular with hikers and locals seeking a naturalistic swimming experience.

As a natural swimming hole fed by a creek, Swift Run Pool does not have a controlled or published temperature. Its water temperature fluctuates naturally with the seasons and weather, typically being cool to cold, even during summer months, as it is fed by mountain stream water. Specific temperature data is generally not available for this type of natural feature.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? This pool receives mixed reviews, with a significant number of visitors expressing disappointment. Key complaints include high admission prices (up to $10 per person, leading to expensive family outings), strict policies against bringing outside food/drinks or re-entering without paying again, and a general consensus that the facility is outdated and in need of maintenance (e.g., broken cement). Multiple reviews criticize the lifeguards for being inattentive, talking amongst themselves, and not adequately supervising the pool, which has led to safety concerns. There are also reports of unannounced closures. On the positive side, some appreciate the variety of features like shallow and deep ends, diving boards, picnic areas, and good concession stand food, and acknowledge its historical popularity as a family-friendly spot. However, the recurring issues of cost, poor maintenance, and inattentive staff frequently overshadow these positive aspects, leading many to feel it's no longer worth the visit compared to other local options.

Life guards do not pay close attention! Too busy talking amongst themselves! Flirting yes saw that too.. the place is not run properly! The pool is not what It used to be! They obviously think it is okay for someone to be hit really hard I'm the face with a football. I was in pain and my face hurt for a few hours after! Place is not worth going to. More of a disappointment ina parents perspective.

We were visiting a family friends. Some of the the parents wanted to get some fishing in and the kids swimming. There is a shallow end and the the deep end. One slide on the shallow side (3ft) which you had to be of a certain height to be on. Deep end had 3 diving boards each of a different height. there was a tall slide but that was closed off (looked sketchy anyway). There was a place to blow up floats with air and plenty of picnic room. The concession stand had good food/snacks also had bathroom and shower. There is a campground here, we didn't stay there but it's next to the highway so I don't know if I'd like that part but it was busy.

I used to really like this place but they randomly decide not to open some days. And you don't know until you drive all the way out there. Also, the lifeguards don't pay attention at all. The pool itself needs updating and there's broken cement at the bottom and it's like stepping on rocks. It's also more expensive than other local places that have been well kept

You can tell that this pool has been the hit spot for the locals every summer . Wonderful family that owns it. You do have to pay a cover charge but not sure what that is atm and you have to be a certain height to use the big slide (very steep slide to climb) . The pool definitely needs some updating to it but overall wonderful place !

I take my kids to this pool every year. It's very family friendly, it's beautiful and very clean, however the recent trip will be my last time bringing my kids unfortunately. The price is outrageous. $10 for an adult and the same price for my 5 year old daughter. I paid $30 just to get in through the door. You are not allowed to bring a cooler, food or drink in with you...which I feel like for the price, you should be. Their concessions are wonderful, however with a $10 admission plus purchasing food and drinks for all 3 of us a day at the public pool quickly turns into a $70 visit. You're not allowed out to your vehicle for any reason otherwise you pay to come back in. It's a shame. It's one of my favorite public pools to take the kids to to break up the summer at our own pool and for them to interact with other kids. Unfortunately the price is just too steep especially when other surrounding pools are only charging $4-5.
