Wailuku Pool (New), officially known as Coach Spencer Shiraishi Pool, is a public aquatic facility located in Wailuku, Hawaii. Operated by Maui County, it features a large competition pool suitable for lap swimming and competitive events, along with a separate shallow wading pool designed for children.
The main competition pool at Wailuku Pool (New) is heated, typically maintained at a comfortable temperature ranging from 80-82 degrees Fahrenheit (approximately 26.7-27.8 degrees Celsius). Information regarding the specific temperature of the wading pool is generally not explicitly provided, but it is typically suitable for toddlers.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? This pool is generally valued for its convenient location, warm water (around 83 degrees, contrasting with cooler alternatives), and often uncrowded atmosphere, making it suitable for exercise, relaxation, and rehabilitation due to its shallow depth (3-3.5 feet). It's frequently described as an adult-oriented pool due to strict rules against splashing and playing, though supervised children are allowed under these conditions. However, patrons report significant issues with unpredictable early closures by staff, despite posted online hours, and difficulty in contacting the facility via phone to confirm hours. There have also been complaints about rude lifeguards and a lack of 'aloha spirit.' The deeper pool is currently drained, leaving only the shallow option available. The pool had previously experienced a closure due to staffing, propane shortages, and other issues following the Lahaina fire, but has since reopened.

I'm sad that the deeper pool is currently drained. They have a second pool though but it's only 3.5 ft deep all the way across. It's good to take the kids here. No diving obviously.
Online shows open till 4:30pm. Rude life guard kicked me out at 2pm said he was leaving and locking the gate. They also dont pick up the phone when you call. I called before coming to confirm online hours were correct. Lifeguard had a bad attitude. No aloha spirit
This pool was closed after that Lahaina fire due to staffing, shortages and lack of propane to heat the pool that is 3 feet deep. Yesterday April 8 2024 I discovered by driving by that it’s reopened now they will try to keep it up until 4 o’clock and I’m the only one in the pool at 1 o’clock so I’m guessing that’s why they sometimes just close it early…. It is 83 degrees! The other pools are 75 degrees now and same as ocean! It’s embarrassing if I’m the only one with a wetsuit. I like deep water, but I prefer warmer water. I was told the other pools are kept cooler because of the lap swimmers. I wait to go until after 12 o’clock noon at the end of the aerobics class because the pool is too crowded. I like doing my own swimming exercise….I always call first, But if no one else is in the pool, I can see why they might want to close it early? I prefer to go at 2 o’clock but I’m afraid they might close the pool early so I’m gonna try to get there around noon . Lifeguard was very friendly, and answered my questions about the pool itself… It’s only five minutes away from where I live so In case it’s closed. I can always drive to the beach from there., , swim in my wetsuit… Closest beach is Kanaha but harder to swim if the water is choppy from wind.I was going to the Harbor to swim i: less choppy … But since I’m rehabilitating after knee surgery I’m back injury and shoulder injury, shallow, or pool is better for me right now
Absolutely LOVE this pool! Also, it is right down the street from my house, which makes it very convenient to go to whenever. It's never crowded & kids are allowed but, I would have to say, it's primarily an adult pool. I say this because of the rules posted up all around the inside and outside the pool; no splashing, no yelling, no chasing, basically no playing around etc... so, that's a plus (unless you have kids I guess..lol 🤔 But, all in all, this pool is great for exercise or just needing to relax 😌 The only thing is, if you DO bring your kids, an adult must accompany them in the pool and the kids should know and understand, that this pool is NOT for playing/horsing around. But, I love it, and I love that I can walk or ride my bike to it as well 🙃😎
Best pool working legs and arms. Love that it’s not freezing water!
