Sandy swimming area with shady spots, picnic tables and showers.
As Little Platte Swim Beach is a natural lake beach rather than a constructed pool, specific, constant "pool temperatures" are not available. The water temperature of Smithville Lake fluctuates naturally with the seasons and daily weather conditions, including air temperature and sun exposure. Visitors should anticipate natural lake water temperatures which can vary significantly.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? Little Platte Swim Beach generally receives positive reviews as an affordable and enjoyable spot for families, particularly with children, near Kansas City. Many appreciate the sand and water for play, clean facilities including bathrooms and showers, picnic areas with grills, and the $6-$7 per vehicle entry fee. Visitors often recommend arriving early to avoid crowds and bringing shade (like umbrellas or tents) and coolers. Kayak access is also noted as a positive. However, one recent negative review reports a decline in quality, mentioning sand erosion, broken glass, non-functional wash-off areas, and rude people, indicating a potentially inconsistent experience.

Little Platte Swim Beach was a great time for my family. We arrived early on a Sunday, packed a picnic lunch and enjoyed the sand, water, and sun. There were very few people there when we arrived and by mid afternoon it was pretty packed. (But still enjoyable.) some grills and tables available just off of the beach area and nice bathrooms and showers. Water was great!
This was a spontaneous trip where I chose this spot the day of wanting to do something with my kiddos. I didn’t want to take a drive and the place not be worth it, but this was a cute little spot especially for Missouri. I’ve lived here 4 years and I guess I haven’t ventured out much but I’m glad I made this trip. It had sand for my kids to play in and the water was fun for them as well. The park was really clean and the trash cans were kept up and not overflowing like other parks I’ve been to. It cost $7 to get into the park with just a vehicle which wasn’t bad at all. I was there for about 4 hours and the kids want to go back & I do plan on going again, this time with a beach umbrella for shade lol
My new absolute favorite spot to swim near KC. Pack the car up, take some coolers and a shade tent. Kayak access right from the beach. Super awesome place to spend the day.
This place used to be nice. Now, the sand has all washed away and broken glass everywhere. The fresh water wash off area was not working. People were rude. We made the best of it but left early. Probably won't be back.
It's a great beach with bathrooms and showers. It cost $6 per vehicle.
