Fun saltwater pool (kids’ play area, wave machine) that attracts families with its picnic tables.
Specific pool temperatures for facilities at Northwood High School are not typically made public or readily available. Such information is usually managed internally for school and athletic purposes.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The Saltville wave pool is largely described as a 'great' and 'fun' saltwater pool, offering a unique 'beach-like' experience in the Appalachian Mountains. Visitors praise its wave schedule (typically 10 minutes on, 5-10 minutes off), the availability of free inner tubes, and areas for both shallow and deeper water (around 4.5 feet when waves are off). The staff are generally noted as friendly, and the pool is considered an excellent spot for family outings, featuring amenities like shaded picnic tables and a shallow kids' section. However, there's a notable inconsistency and complaint regarding the food and drink policy; one reviewer appreciated being able to bring food, while another strongly disliked the prohibition on coolers, feeling compelled to purchase items from the snack bar or eat outside the facility. Minor concerns also include some lifeguards not always inspiring confidence and the waves potentially being too strong for very young children in deeper sections.

We had a blast! The pool is salt water! Feels like our own little secret hidden in the beautiful mountain town of Saltville. Stop by the Middle of the Appalachian museum to see our area go from prehistoric times to present! Love both!
Love hanging out with the family there. The only thing, they won't let you bring your coolers in. They try to make you buy their products. You can go back outside to your vehicle and eat, but who wants to do that when its hot. They either need to let you bring your coolers in or have picnics tables outside. Someone needs to open their eyes up and see this.
Great pool, not too busy on a Wednesday afternoon. Nice that you can bring in food and drinks. 10 minutes of waves, 10 minutes off. Shaded picnic tables available. Only complaint is the lifeguards didn’t inspire confidence. They *usually* stopped throwing football when the waves started but I feared for peoples’ heads and drowning when the waves were off. (and my head from patrons throwing them)
This is such a great little pool in the heart of Saltville, VA. It’s a little bit of a drive off of Interstate 81 but it’s definitely worth the trip. The pool is a saltwater pool. It’s not huge but it’s the perfect size considering it’s a wave pool. The waves come in spurts and seems to be around 10 minutes of waves, 5 minutes off. When the waves are off, the deepest section is around 4.5 feet. They have heavy duty inner tubes available at no additional cost. There is also a shallow kids section. Once the waves start, it may be difficult for young children to be in the deeper section as the waves can force the water to more than 5 ft plus current. All of the staff were very friendly. The snack bar was affordable and had chips, crackers, candy bars, and bottled drinks. There are a few lounge chairs available and a covered picnic area with tables. The bathrooms were as expected for a public pool. I highly recommend this pool for adults and kids, I think it’s fun and it’s like having a little piece of the beach in the Appalachian Mountains.
I went with my Aunt, my cousin and My cousin's daughter and her friend. I told My cousin I didn't think My legs would be able to handle it but I would go anyway and I was right but I had a great time sitting in the shallow with my aunt cause helping her get back to her feet was somewhat halarious to me. I could only imagine just how funny I looked. Had a great time. Thanks Whitney
