This place is a hidden gem. My kids and I passed this pool after hiking Palmer Hill and I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was no entry fee and no town residency requirement. Downstate on Long Island, these are common barriers to entry in public pools. Not the case here. The pool was clean, lightly trafficked, and my kids had a great time here after sweating it out hiking Palmer Hill.

Clean. Friendly. Never packed like a city pool. Public. No entry fee, no need to be a resident. As long as you follow the pool rules, which are there for a reason (your protection and safety!) a good place to be. You need to use the ladders to get out of the pool so you don’t slip on the very wet and slipper grate and break your head or teeth on the side of the pool. You ARE allowed to jump into the pool. There’s even a diving board in the deep end. There IS a smaller kiddie pool where children who can’t swim yet can play without floatation devices. If your child CANNOT swim then you need to be with them if they are in the deep pool. Sorry the lifeguards don’t want anyone drowning.

Really disappointed. I went to the pool with my two small children, and discovered that the pool director forbids toys of any kind, won't allow anyone to enter or exit the pool except by the ladders (so kids aren't allowed to jump in from the side, for example), and most problematic, forbids parents to put flotation devices on their children (life vests). Neither of my children have had swimming lessons yet, and I was there alone with them. It would have been much safer to be able to put on life vests. I tried explaining this to the pool manager (Rachel Andrews, I assume? I didn't ask her name), but she was unwilling to consider any perspective other than her own. The really bad management at this pool is making a waste of what should be an incredible community resource: we were there on a hot, sunny, summer day and there were only two other people in the pool -- and no other children. Presumably other parents have already discovered how un-child-friendly this pool is? The Town Board really needs to conduct some oversight. The rule forbidding life vests is a regulatory overreach, based on the pool manager's opinions of how children should learn to swim, and makes the pool actively unsafe for parents with more than one child to monitor. Not going back again.

It's free, it's friendly, it's a great location, don't listen to Dan this place is perfect. Only downside is it's a little short for lane swimming
