Many find it a fun, challenging experience suitable for various skill levels, with friendly and accommodating staff. The course's well-maintained state and pleasant scenery contribute to its appeal, with some groups traveling long distances to play regularly. However, a consistent point of criticism is the rough condition of the cart paths, which are frequently mentioned as needing significant repair. They need to make their minds up about tee times and fix the website. Called to make a tee time and was told that they don’t do them. Showed up on a Friday and was told they do on Fridays, Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Tried to call several times days before and no one answered. Not sure if I’ll be back. Was worth the drive the first time I played but this issue about tee times and such really sticks to me and makes it worth it or not about the 80-90min drive. Greens were great as usual and faster than what I’m used to, the tee boxes were nice as well for the most part. Decent course for the price. Worth the 80 minute drive. Not to long, not to short and still fun while still challenging. Tee boxes are in pretty good shape. Greens were rolling pretty good but firm. No ball marks left when coming in steep from 150yds. First time playing there and enjoyed it. Friendly folks and members aren’t jerks like at some courses by not letting folks play through. Nice scenery. I just wish they had logo balls

First time playing FCGC, live about an hour away. I was pleasantly surprised, despite it being an older course the best thing about it was the condition. It is very well maintained, other than the cart paths which need a lot of work like most older courses. The man at the front desk was not real friendly, not sure if this is his general nature or was having a bad day. I was trying to engage in conversation with him about the course and it was hard getting any response from him. It is a Gene Hamm designed course like River Bend in New Bern, Roanoke Country Club in Williamston and Washington Yacht and Country Club. There are a couple of interesting golf holes, but otherwise nothing special. What is rather noteworthy about the design from a senior playing the white tees is that the par 3's other than one were really long, 2 at nearly 200 yards and 1 at 180. There are 5 long Par 4's at 380-400+ yards; however, there are 3 Par 5's that are rather short at about 470 yards or under. I'd recommend like I did with River Bend that they would benefit by a set of combination tees to bridge the gap between Gold at 5,400 and white at 6,100 yards for those that don't want to go to the gold senior tees and play a bunch of short holes. It would have a set of purple tees from about 5,700 to 5,900 yards that would either shorten or lengthen certain holes without redesigning the hole course.

Great local course that is perfect for almost any skill level. I was a member years ago before taking several years off from golf. Finally getting back into the swing of things and always enjoy playing here. Nice staff. Course is in fairly good shape, and looks like it's improving. But, the cart paths are rough in places (I've noticed the same at a couple other courses around). No problem, as I prefer to walk, anyway. 5-stars overall. A joy, as always, to play.

Great course for a great price! Greens and fairways are some of the best in the area. The staff there is very friendly and accommodating. I have a group that travels just over an hour to play there most weeks.
