Center featuring fitness equipment, personal training, group exercise classes, and a pool.
The Parkwood YMCA maintains its Lap Pool (Warm Water Pool) at approximately 84 degrees Fahrenheit. The Teaching/Therapy Pool (Warm Water Therapy Pool) is kept at a warmer temperature, around 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for the YMCA highlight excellent staff who are consistently described as friendly, helpful, caring, and knowledgeable. The preschool program receives high praise for its quality, structure, dedicated teachers, focus on outdoor activities, and affordability. The pool is generally considered great, and a variety of exercise classes (like yoga and spin) are appreciated for their instructors and content. However, several significant concerns were raised. The weight room is frequently criticized for being old, small, having outdated equipment, and suffering from poor ventilation and unpleasant odors. Cleanliness in the locker rooms and showers is a recurring issue, with reports of hair and debris. The pool area and surrounding building are described as being uncomfortably cold in winter. Some members feel that new facility developments disproportionately benefit childcare at the expense of fitness areas, leading to older equipment and limited access to certain gym spaces during childcare hours. Finally, the cost of membership, especially when coupled with extra fees for classes, was a deterrent for some.

I like the staff, the clientele is respectful, and the pool is great. Seemingly great for kids too. But I miss the newer equipment and attention to room details they had at the--now closed--downtown YMCA. The strength training room itself, and much of the equipment in it, seems like it's an afterthought at this particular Y. This one could be great if given the attention the downtown Y received.
The preschool here is amazing. It is run like a school, not a daycare. The teachers are great and care a lot about the kids. They focus on getting the kids outside as much as the weather allows them to. My child has grown so much at the preschool and also at swimming lessons. The prices are also very affordable for both preschool and swimming lessons. I highly recommend the programs here!
Honest review of Parkwood YMCA: My husband and I became members in March of 2019 and just recently canceled our membership in June of 2019. Overall we had a good experience here. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. I liked how they offer many different exercise classes. We tried both yoga and spin classes for a month and really enjoyed them. Our instructors were fantastic. My two suggestions for improvement would be more attention to cleanliness of the locker rooms/showers and more ventilation in the weight room in particular. I know this a busy gym, and its not going to smell like roses, but there were several times the weight room and surrounding halls smelled so terrible, we had to leave. (Like sewage back-up terrible.) I also understand that the locker room gets a lot of foot traffic, but the floors and lockers were always littered with gobs of hair and debris. Ultimately, we left because of the cost. $80 a month is a lot of money for us right now, and we also had to pay extra fees for the classes, which were not included with the membership. Considering we only used the cardio and weight room and no other services, it was not worth the cost for us. We decided we could still get a quality workout at home for free and canceled our membership.
The staff here is wonderful. They're caring and polite and of course very knowledgeable. The problem we had is the fact that the building in and around the pool is so freezing cold it's intolerable in the winter. I mean I understand saving a penny on heat but that's ridiculous....it's too cold in the pool room. The locker rooms are relatively unclean. My wife needed more exercise classes and they don't offer much In the way of water exercise classes.
Weight room is old and small. Any of the new parts of this facility goes to childcare instead of fitness. And you can’t access the gym doing childcare hours Childcare is taking over that area of the gym, including some racquetball courts
