What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews present a contrasting experience, highlighting significant improvements in some areas while revealing severe issues in others. On the positive side, the clubhouse has undergone a successful remodel, featuring new tables and a bar, while the fitness center boasts new equipment and a cleaner, renovated environment. Staff members, particularly Amanda and Jason, are commended for their efforts in implementing these positive changes and being responsive to concerns. However, the golf course operations receive substantial criticism. Recurring complaints include severe overbooking leading to frustratingly slow pace of play and long waits between holes. Customers also report poor communication regarding course closures and tournaments, often resulting in being unexpectedly kicked off the course without prior warning, sometimes by unhelpful or rude staff. These negative experiences, coupled with instances of late-opening employees and a perceived lack of customer service, have led to deep disappointment, membership cancellations, and unfavorable comparisons to other local golf facilities.

WOW! What a great change. The club house has been remodeled with tables and a bar downstairs. Fitness has new treadmills, recumbent bikes and other equipment. Golf course is in the process of opening the large putting clock behind the club house. They also have the only practice sand trap of the Topeka Great Life facilities. Amanda and her staff along with Jason (golf course) and his staff are and have made great changes. If you have a concern visit with Amanda,Jason or a staff member they will try to work with you. STOP BY AND CHECK IT OUT!
Course is a good lay out rough tee boxes, and probably the worst course management I have ever seen. They severely over book, cause massive slow down, waiting 5 minutes each hole for the group in front that is also waiting. Would be great if you could just play and not sit. Its just stupid.
I have been working out here for years and yes there have been ups and downs, but currently, Amanda is working really hard to get the place up to par. I am excited to see improvements being done and the place feels clean and getting renovated. Keep up the good work. As for the Golf course, I don't golf often enough, so unable to comment.
I had a tee time for 6:24 AM on 5/31/2025 and was deeply disappointed when I found my group and a couple others waiting for the clubhouse to open. The employee did not show up until approximately 6:50 AM. FAST Forward to the 11th hole, we see multiple people setting up for a tournament , we quickly then get confronted by a maintenance worker with a terrible attitude. He simply states “ you all have to stop NOW” we ask “why” and he replies “ there is a tournament happening and you can’t be in the middle of it, go talk to the clubhouse if you have a problem but I’m officially kicking you off the course for the tournament”. So we go to the club house and was offered to wait 15-20 minutes to then play behind the tournament. Everyone knows that there is no good pace of play at these tournaments. We would have been there all day waiting on people after we caught them even after waiting 15 minutes. I am disappointed we had to tee off late due to the late employee, not getting warned by that employee about the tournament, and then getting treated like that by this establishments maintenance worker. I’m canceling my membership and I’ve been a member for multiple years. Great Life is absolutely terrible with customer relations. I’d rather be a member at Lake Shawnee/Forbes/Cypress because at-least at those courses you get treated like a customer/member not an inconvenience.
3 times this year I've booked 18 holes online and I show up to half the course being closed. This last time we were 2 holes in and then kicked off. Neither online nor in person said anything about the closure.
