About

Water park where families, teens and toddlers play, featuring diving boards and slides.

The competition pool and diving well are generally maintained at 80°F (26.7°C). The leisure pool is kept warmer at 90°F (32.2°C), and the hot tub is typically set at 102°F (38.9°C).

What are people saying (AI review summary)? The Lawrence Aquatic Center receives mixed but predominantly positive reviews, with many describing it as an "absolute Midwest oasis" that brings "unspeakable joy." Visitors praise its extensive facilities, which include three distinct pools: a fun kids' pool with sprinklers, a large middle pool featuring lap lanes, diving boards, and a thrilling two-story yellow slide, and a third shallow pool with floating pads and an enclosed blue slide. Amenities like covered tables, lockers (requiring personal locks), lounge chairs, and clean restrooms with showers are appreciated, as is the adjacent free park. Day passes are $7, and parking is noted as 'okay' but potentially limited. However, several negative points were raised. One reviewer expressed strong dissatisfaction with lifeguards for not intervening during an aggressive incident in the kids' pool. Another criticized the early weekend closing hours (6 PM) when the sun is still out, suggesting a need for longer hours or more experienced staff. A particularly strong negative review stemmed from a personal connection to someone allegedly banned from the pool based on 'lies,' leading to a declaration of never returning. Despite these criticisms, positive mentions also include the annual 'Pooch Plunge' event.

Never have I ever been to a better pool! I've lived in the Houston area for all of my life, but we have family is Lawrence. I'm not able to visit as often as I'd like to, but if I'm in town and the weather is agreeable, the Lawrence Aquatic Center is a can't-miss spot. It's located just off Massachusetts (Mass) St. Parking is okay; we're usually there during nonbusiness hours and will park at the nearby bank. Other than that, there is limited street parking and paid lots on Mass St. that are within a walkable distance. There are probably season passes available for purchase, but since we're not local, we just pay for a day pass, which was $7 per adult. There is a covered area with tables, lockers (but you have to supply your own lock), lounge chairs around the entire (HUGE!) pool area and restrooms with showers where you can also change into and out of your bathing suit. Now, it gets really fun: There are three separate pools. A kids' pool features shallow water with a sprinkler system of buckets that slowly fill with water, dump it out into the pool, and then start refilling with water again. If I had this kind of feature at my childhood pool, I'd have lost my mind. The middle pool is the largest. The side closest to the kids' pool is about 4' deep. In the middle, they have a handful of roped off lap-swimming lanes. Then on the other side, the depth goes to about 5'. Right off of the 5' area, you can enjoy a yellow slide, high dive and regular diving board; the water is 10' in this area. Let's talk about the yellow slide. From the more shallow areas, it doesn't look like much of a thrill, but dear reader, that couldn't be further from the truth. Once you climb the nearly two stories to the top of the slide and push off, you're treated to a **steep** drop on the slide itself before you careen off the edge, free-fall ten more feet then kerplunk into the pool. Kids and adults (myself included) have a great time on this slide. The third pool is mostly shallow water with a fun feature of floating pads you can walk on while hanging on to the overhead ropes for balance. This pool has a swirly, enclosed blue slide and is mostly a kids' area. I haven't spent any time here because (A) I don't want to go down an enclosed slide [the yellow slide is open on the top]; (B) it's mostly for kids, and I'm entertained enough in the other areas of the pool. Regardless of which pool you're enjoying, when you look beyond the pool proper, you'll see several different types of trees and a sky that seems like it'll never end. If you want to take your time drying off, there's a free park right next to the pool with plenty of things like swings and slides for the little ones. Even as a fourty-something adult, the Lawrence Aquatic Center brings me unspeakable joy. Please don't miss out on this absolute Midwest oasis.

I like this pool, but today a man was aggressively yelling at a woman in the kids pool for several minutes before another swimmer had to talk him into leaving, as four lifeguards all stood nearby not doing a thing but talking to one another and watching. Why couldnt they tell him to leave, or get a manager, or call the police? It was irresponsible to wait around until a random guy deescalated, especially when so many kids and families were around.

The sun doesn't go down until 8 this time of year and you close at 6 on the weekend. We need an adult swimming pool with longer hours or you need actual employees who aren't tweens.
