What are people saying (AI review summary)? The wading pool is highly praised as an excellent, free (in the afternoons) option for young children, babies, and toddlers, featuring a shallow depth (never exceeding 1 foot/12 inches), water spouts, and a gated area. Reviewers appreciate the amenities like chairs, umbrellas, shade from trees, and nearby bathrooms (though one mentioned a muddy floor). It's seen as a great alternative to larger aquatic centers, offering a safe and community-oriented environment. While some note the presence of lifeguards or attendants, others mention volunteers. The ability to book private parties in the mornings helps maintain the facility, though some miss the previous public morning access. The park itself is described as well-maintained with a playground and community events, contributing to its status as a valued community hub.

It’s the perfect depth for young kids that don’t swim and the spouts are just enough to avoid if your kiddos don’t like them. I’m so glad it was open again this year! My kids love it and there’s some chairs and umbrellas as well. It’s all gated and has a bathroom too ( kind of muddy floor but reasonably clean). We do miss being Abe to book it for the morning though.
Such a great area for little kids, it's free and the kiddos love the water spouts shooting water up on the shallow side. The deepest the water gets is only 1 foot. Plenty of trees around for shaded areas to sit. There are no lifeguards on duty, only volunteers.
My family loves South Park. It's beautifully maintained, has lots of trees, a great playground for the little ones and there's community events that happen there regularly. The wading pool is FREE every afternoon, with a lifeguard on duty. And it is the perfect size for babies and toddlers that are too small for the large Aquatic Center downtown. We've always had great experiences with the other parents and children there. It's a solid community hub. Also, I walk my dog and baby through South Park every day and while there is a community of homeless people who frequent there, I do not find it a problem. They are always kind and curtious to us and the social complications of homelessness do not just go away if you don't see it.
This is such a nice little pool. The water never gets deeper than 12", there are multiple sprayers, and there are chairs and shade. We appreciated the bathrooms located right next to the pool, and the fact that there was a pool attendant on duty. It is definitely a nice hidden gem!
The wading pool is open to the public for FREE in the afternoon and reserved for private parties in the morning. I imagine it's how they are able to keep it up and running. It's a great option in town for people with multiple small children who might struggle keeping up with everyone at the larger public pool.
