What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews for Genesis Health Club present a mixed experience for members. Positives include an exceptionally welcoming and memorable interaction with a staff member named Cody, a spacious and state-of-the-art facility, positive experiences with yoga, cycling, and track classes, and the availability and enjoyment of the kids' club. One member found the staff friendly, the gym not overcrowded, and dispelled rumors of rude staff or uncleanliness. However, significant recurring negatives overshadow these positives. There are widespread complaints about frequently broken equipment (including machines, hot tubs, pools, and saunas) with slow or non-existent repairs/replacements, despite high membership and annual maintenance fees. Issues with professionalism are noted, such as staff neglecting to assist an elderly member and management providing a dismissive response to concerns about male children in women's locker rooms. Sanitation is a major concern, with reports of dirty bathrooms, an unmaintained dry sauna, and poorly cleared entryways. Facility maintenance also suffers from issues like broken AC units. While one manager (MODU) was commended for responsiveness, the overall sentiment suggests a need for substantial improvements in equipment upkeep, facility cleanliness, staff professionalism, and policy enforcement, especially concerning locker room use, to align with the gym's pricing and potential.

I was visiting all the way from England and only had time for a quick session—but wow, what a moment that turned out to be. Cody greeted me with such warmth and genuine hospitality that I felt cared for, even though I was just passing through. His thoughtful gesture—and the way he looked after me—was something I’ll never forget. The gym itself is incredibly impressive: massive, state-of-the-art facility perched atop a hill. But what truly elevates the experience is Cody. His professionalism, kindness, and passion turned a simple workout into one of the most memorable things I’ve done while there. If you’re a Manhattan, Kansas local—you’re incredibly fortunate to have someone like him at Genesis Health Club. Thank you, Cody, for making me feel so welcome. That hillsparked moment and your stellar service made all the difference.
I love Genesis. I lift weights and the machines work 90% of the time. Yoga and cycling classes are the best, and I enjoy running on the track. My recommendation is to cut the front desk and maintenance associates some slack- they take pride in the jobs they do, even when I come across machines that are out of order on a daily basis.
This gym needs a little more professionalism. UPDATE: Again with the professionalism. I was standing at the front desk and watched an elderly man in a wheelchair trying to leave the gym. There were 3 gym workers present who watched as this man struggled to open the doors by himself. I dropped what I was doing and helped the man exit the double doors because this multi million dollar gym does not have a wheelchair button. One of the last issue o want to talk about is the sanitation which is pretty good with exception to the dry sauna. It is clear that the sauna has not been wiped down or maintained well. The floor mats are a tripping hazard due to how work they are and this needs addressed. UPDATE: 1/22/2024 NEW PICTURE ADDED I was not surprised when I came to the gym to find that management had not cleaned the sidewalks to allow safe entry into the gym. A narrow path was made which shows me that the least amount of effort was utilized. Many of us pay nearly$ 100 to go here and have an annual maintenance fee so this is not something I should have to review. Update February 2024 new management. Waiting to see the differences. Update 6/29/2024 Gym has gotten a new manager. Here is my most recent update. Some of the AC units have been out for a few days (I’ve gotten this information from people who are familiar with the situation) so the gym has been a little warmer than usual. I am guessing indoors it’s about 80 degrees. While this shouldn’t be a problem because working out in mild heat is beneficial it comes down to the amount of money this gym charges us to w/o with the additional yearly maintenance fee and equipment is routinely broken and replacement equipment is being waited on. The second issue I would like to address since my last review (as requested by my wife) is that there have been several present and past occurrences of women bringing their male children into the women’s locker room. Over the course of one year she has spoken to three different managers about the issues. Some of you may be curious about why bringing your male children into the women’s locker room might be a problem. On multiple occasions these young male children have been VERY observant about the female body. She has gone so far as to talk to one parent about the discomfort and strongly encouraged the use of the family bathroom. Other women have discussed this issue in the presence of my wife and with my wife. In discussions with the new manager the response was “I’m not going to tell a mom that she cannot take her child into the bathroom with her. I mean my wife does it with our sons”. This response is a complete and utter reduction of a persons feelings and quite frankly their sense of safety. It runs in the same vein of “if everybody’s doing it then it’s okay”. Point-blank-period women should not be left to feel uncomfortable in a space that is made specifically for them. My wife has requested signs, emails, or some level of notification be presented to gym members to remind them of age cut offs. The newest manager states “I will review the policy to confirm the cutoff ages”. However, there need to be more actionable steps to address this issue. Our belief is that if this was happening the other way around, young female children in the male bathroom that this would be getting more attention. If the gym is actually concerned about making its female members comfortable in their locker rooms, as a business analyst here is what I would suggest. 1. If kids are not needing to change or dress allow their parent to drop the kids off at the kids corner for short periods of time 20minutes of less. This would allow them time to change and grab whatever’s necessary for their workout. 2. Put up signs and remind members of the family bathroom. 3. Consider future redesign of unused spaces. On a positive note, I want to mention that the manager, MODU, has gone to great lengths to address some of the issues I have brought to his attention and has even found me while working out to let me know he was on it.
I was leery to join b/c of all the negative reviews - but after grilling the staff, other members and my own observation, I found nothing credible on all the accusations of rude staff, unclean facility and the inability to cancel the membership. I think this is a wonderful gym with plenty of equipment (admittedly some of the machines could be updated, but they work). The staff is very helpful and friendly, kids club is available and my kiddo loves going, reasonable swim lesson prices and I've never gone and felt it was frustratingly overcrowded. I'm glad I signed up my entire family!
Been coming here for years and something is always broken. Today the hot tub, pool, dry sauna and steam rooms are down. Two cable machines are broken and one has been broken for over a month. A hip sled is now broken. Months ago two benches were broken and instead of replacing them they got rid of them. The bathrooms are always dirty and maybe cleaned once a week. We will be looking at switching to wild cat
