About

The YMCA of Saginaw, located at 1915 Fordney St, Saginaw, MI 48601, USA, is a community-oriented facility offering a wide range of programs and services focused on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. It typically includes fitness centers, group exercise classes, aquatic facilities, and various activities designed to serve individuals and families within the Saginaw community.

The YMCA of Saginaw features a Main Pool, which is maintained at a temperature of 82 degrees Fahrenheit, and a warmer Therapy Pool, kept at 92 degrees Fahrenheit.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? The YMCA receives mixed reviews, primarily lauded for its extensive amenities, strong community focus, and helpful staff, while often criticized for its aging facilities. Positive aspects include a wide range of fitness options like a walking path, indoor track, pool, jacuzzi, machines, weights, and various classes for all ages, along with sports like basketball and pickleball. It's praised for its community involvement, hosting veteran programs and providing numerous community spaces. Staff are generally seen as helpful, and areas are noted as clean, with good hours and ample free parking. However, many reviewers describe the building, equipment, and locker rooms as dingy, old, and gross, with some finding them 'borderline scary' and suggesting the facility needs significant renovation beyond just daycare and event rooms. There's specific criticism regarding a potentially discriminatory hiring practice for a lifeguard position and a perceived sexism in sauna access between men's and women's locker rooms. While the pool and hot tub are often cited as acceptable, some recommend alternative, newer gyms despite the YMCA's aquatic offerings. Additionally, food options are noted as healthier but not allergen-friendly, and an all-day pass costs $25, requiring a swimming test.

I am a Y national member and visit this Y when in the area. It is next to a nice walking path. Nearby walking group. They also have an indoor walk/run track. It usually has coffee (by donation) and some basic food items, drinks for sale. The food is healthier but nothing GF, Veg*n, allergen friendly. There are plenty of free day lockers, bring a lock. There are trainers if wanted. This is an older building, went to the Y summer camp when I was a kid. However there are plenty of machines, weights and a good flow of guests. A stretching room. The staff is helpful. The areas are clean. There is a pool, jacuzzi and a lot of classes for all age ranges. There is basketball and pickleball. There is a lot of community spaces, community bulletin board, meeting rooms and activities about what they do in the community. They host veteran programs and there is a day every week that veterans can visit for free. I think the best way to learn about what the Y offers as a fitness facility and what they do in the local community is to visit one and see for yourself. They also host community open houses for veterans or the elderly. Y's are not always the latest but they are right up there with community. Plenty of free parking. Good hours of operation, opens early. They have a wide range of clients be it age or ability.

No idea how this place has over 4 stars. The equipment and gym area look super dingy, old and gross. The locker rooms also disgusting and outdated. The women get a sauna in their room but men have to pay extra to access the gross and moldy MAC room for their sauna/steam room(kinda sexist though I wouldn't want to shower in mold anyway). The pool and hot tub are the only acceptable parts of this place, the rest needs to be completely redone. I was excited when I heard they were planning construction to redo a lot of stuff, turns out its only for the daycare and event room stuff. This place looks identical to when I went there 20 years ago as a kid and I thought it looked gross back then. Saginaw needs a nice gym with a pool. Unfortunately YMCA is our only option and the place is borderline scary. Save your money, go to planet fitness, it doesn't have a pool but it's cheaper and 10 times nicer inside.

Part 2......their job as if that was my disability. Now the one thing that I know for a fact I can do very well, and that is swim. I am very responsible, and my eyes do work. I'm also very quick on my feet. So I would have made an excellent lifeguard. I've cried many days over this. It was a lot of mental anguish for me. So if you are not young, and you don't have the look that Sandra wants, do not bother!
