About

The Mequon Community Pool, located at 11335 N Cedarburg Rd, Mequon, WI, is a year-round indoor aquatic facility. It serves the Mequon-Thiensville community by offering various programs including open swim, lap swim, swimming lessons, and other aquatic activities.

The facility features two main pools: the main lap pool is typically maintained at 80-81 degrees Fahrenheit (26.7-27.2 degrees Celsius), and a separate warm water/therapy pool is kept at a warmer 90-91 degrees Fahrenheit (32.2-32.8 degrees Celsius).

What are people saying (AI review summary)? The Mequon pool receives mixed reviews, highlighting both positive and negative experiences. On the positive side, it is noted as family-friendly with opportunities for kids to have fun, allowing personal toys, offering an adult swim hour for exercise, and some patrons praise its cleanliness and quiet atmosphere. However, significant concerns were raised regarding safety, staff training, and a serious incident of alleged racial profiling. Specific safety issues include passive lifeguarding, ineffective enforcement of rules (e.g., children swimming with suckers, unsafe diving), and a filthy pool area with food and wrappers. One detailed review concluded the pool is unsafe and staff need better training. A concerning incident of racial profiling involved a front staff member questioning only a person of color in a group about residency with excessive scrutiny. Additionally, the non-resident fee is considered steep by some.

I went to this pool a lot 20 years ago and was excited to bring my kids. We've gone several times over the last few days, and there were several things that were alarming to me. I'll list both positives and negatives with our pool experience. Positives - the kids had tons of fun - you can now bring your own toys Negatives (alarming incidents while there). This is due to very passive guarding: - several kids were swimming with suckers in their mouths. It took us pointing this out to a guard and having them contact their manager (took about 10 minutes for this to be dealt with). This is so dangerous in water. - Many kids were jumping off the diving board sideways towards the wall - so unsafe! - Guards often correct behavior with their normal voice, no whistle or something to make their voice louder. Kids do not hear this or listen to the guards. Guards should not also need to use words like "please" when addressing safety issues. - The pool area was filthy! Smooshed and soggy food and wrappers everywhere! - We saw more small things, but it all boils down to safety issues not being treated seriously. Our experience of the pool is that it is not safe and that the staff need more training. Guarding is not a passive job, and guards need to be able to keep swimmers safe. A part of that is enforcing pool rules that prevent accidents! We have been to other pools in the area that have swim tests and have much more active and preventative guarding in addition to consequences for swimmers who do not listen. I hope Mequon pool can remedy this, so that it is a safe place to swim.

We are not residents so we pay a steep price. We love this pool it is very family friendly. The first hour is adult swim on the deep end of the pool which is great for water exercises. Lifeguards are friendly as well. Walk!!!!!

My daughter and her friends had went to this pool, per usual they were asked if they were residents etc as normal, all of them said yes but front staff member questioned the only POC in the friend group and asked to see an ID , which she showed her school (MEQUON SCHOOL) ID, but as if that wasn’t enough she also asked for her address or state ID. The questioning staff member asked her to just say it out loud so she can look it up and confirm if “she is” a resident. As the friend didn’t want any trouble nor pay the “non resident fee”, she did in fact tell the staff member HER address out loud. But my daughter said it looked like she was just typing randomly on the computer and ‘confirmed’ that she was a resident before letting them swim. I am so disappointed in the staff. If you’re going to question ONE person out of 5 girls, you should question them ALL. Definitely looked like racial profiling. The staff member in question: Don’t know their name, but : Heavy set caucasian female, perhaps late teens, and shaved head with makeup.
