Courthouse Bay Training Tank at Camp Lejeune, NC, is a vital multi-purpose water survival and combat readiness training facility for Marines. It hosts various courses, including the Helicopter Underwater Egress Trainer (HUET), combat swim qualifications, and other water-based competency drills, designed to prepare personnel for challenging aquatic environments and emergency situations.
While precise pool temperatures for Courthouse Bay Training Tank are not publicly specified, the training pools, especially those used for intensive drills like HUET, are generally heated and temperature-controlled. This ensures participant safety, reduces the risk of hypothermia during extended training sessions, and allows for year-round operation regardless of external weather conditions.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews indicate the pool has very limited and inconvenient hours for lap swimming (6-8 AM only) and open swim (11 AM - 1 PM), with unreliable lifeguard staffing sometimes leading to cancellations. While the facility is praised for its cleanliness, friendly staff, and suitability for unit qualifications, its unusual design (30m/33yds, sudden depth change) and restricted accessibility make it less ideal for general public or casual swimmers.
Reviews
The Marine Corps has decided to staff the pool with Marines therefore you absolutely cannot swim laps at any time outside of 6AM and 8AM. Also, those Marines “working” as life guards sometimes just don’t show up. So just don’t come here it during chow or anytime hoping to better yourself, sucks eggs.
Open swim hours are 1100-1300 Clean facility and friendly staff for unit qualifications plan ahead
Kinda weird setup: 30m/33yrds long, straight drop-off from 5' to 13", but the most clean pool next to the MCIWS pool at Camp Johnson and the highest tower too.
Open during times not available for most people. Who wants to swim during lunch? Nobody!
Made me wish I was born as a duck, good time
