What are people saying (AI review summary)? Neal Fitness Center receives high praise for its clean, welcoming facility, knowledgeable and accommodating staff, and vibrant community atmosphere. Members consistently enjoy the diverse and well-run classes, which offer a great mix of cardio, strength, and energy with motivating instructors. The pool and sauna are highlighted as rare and appealing amenities in Muskegon. However, the most significant and repeated criticism concerns the pool's open swim schedule, which ends too early for individuals working standard day shifts. This inaccessibility prevents many, including families, from utilizing the main draw of the center, leading to membership cancellations and deterring potential members despite the premium price. Reviewers express that expanding evening open swim hours would significantly improve the experience and justify the investment, potentially leading to a five-star rating.

Neal Fitness Center has great potential, but the pool schedule makes it difficult for people like me. The facility is clean, welcoming, and the pool is a rare amenity in Muskegon, yet open swim ends before many who work a standard day shift can attend. I don’t get out of work until 6 PM, and several acquaintances and friends have the same issue—they wanted to bring their kids in the evenings but couldn’t, which deterred them from joining. My own membership ended up being canceled for the same reason. That said, the classes are well run and enjoyable. Many offer a great mix of cardio, strength, and energy, with instructors who keep participants motivated. Each session I attended left me wishing I could finish the evening with a swim.
The biggest reason for my low rating is the pool schedule. The pool is the main draw to Neal Fitness Center—it’s unique in Muskegon, and I was willing to pay a premium membership price just to have access to it. Unfortunately, the open swim hours don’t work for anyone who works a normal first shift (9am–5pm). By the time we are out of work, the pool is already closed. Many of my friends and family have the same concern and decided against joining because they couldn’t bring come after work, and ultimately, my family and I canceled our membership for the same reason. It’s disappointing to have such a great facility, but not make the pool accessible for the very people who need evening hours. That being said, the rest of the facility is excellent. It’s clean, well-maintained, and offers a wide variety of classes that I truly enjoyed. • Boot Camp pushed me physically and mentally, with an instructor who kept the energy high. • Cardio Drumming was a blast—fun, fast-paced, and something different from the usual workout. • Cycle and Cycle Strong were both motivating and a great cardio burn, especially with the music and group energy. • HIIT, Kick It, and Heart Hustle gave me a serious workout and left me feeling stronger every week. • Yoga, Zumba, and Vinyasa Flow were equally rewarding—uplifting, challenging, and fun. Every class I took was positive, and the instructors were fantastic. More than once I left a class wishing I could finish the evening with a swim—it would have been the perfect balance. If evening open swim times are added, I will happily update this review to five stars. Until then, it’s hard to justify the premium price when the most unique part of the gym isn’t accessible for people who work during the day.
Worth the investment! It can be intimidating at first but you will soon find yourself part of a community that wants to focus on healthy mindset! The staff is very nice and willing to answer any questions to their best abilities! The classes are fun and educational! The pool and sauna is such a vibe! If you are looking to invest in a membership and have never been before ask for a tour to check it out yourself! I would 100% refer friends here.
The people are great here, members and staff alike, it feels good to be part of a place that keeps the community healthy.
The facility is clean, staff are very nice & knowledgeable and willing to accommodate your needs. I highly recommend.
