What are people saying (AI review summary)? Overall, the facility receives mixed reviews. Positive aspects frequently highlighted include the excellent updated workout facilities (gym, training area, pools), cleanliness, variety of programs and activities offered, and the friendly front desk staff. Shannon Port's fitness classes are consistently praised as amazing. However, significant concerns were raised regarding the discontinuation of evening classes, which negatively impacts accessibility for working individuals and reduces overall value. There were multiple reports of highly disorganized and poorly managed birthday parties, including issues with setup, lack of instructors, and high rental prices. A serious safety incident involving a staff member was reported to be poorly handled by management, with no visible consequences for the employee. Additionally, some users expressed a desire for more feasible class times for working families and a class variety pass. Despite these criticisms, many acknowledge the facility as a valuable resource for the community.

It is very disappointing that the evening classes will be gone after this month. I was so excited when they were brought back 2 years ago. The variety was great and Shannon Port is an amazing instructor. The classes were challenging and never repetitive. So many women and men cant take the morning classes due to work. We pay a lot of money to be members, and yes, my family uses the gym and the pool. My teen and significant other use the weight room and we all use the walking track. The upgrades are amazing that have been done, but I can't help but feel that the value and accessibility have decreased significantly. You are losing an important demographic--women and men who work during the day. It has also always been a disapointment to me that a class variety pass has never been offered. You can't always make a month worth of the same classes. It would be nice to be able to take a variety of classes at the discounted rate. I hope their is a plan in place to fill this major void that will be happening next month.
Facilities are pretty nice. However, I was involved in a significant safety incident where a staff member knowingly and intentionally put me at risk of serious injury. Management did poorly at handling it. The first response I got was an offer of a complete membership refund. It felt like a payoff to go away. Don’t think that was the intent, but it was just a very strange vibe. Said staff member had zero visible consequence. I have trouble imagining anywhere that an employee could consciously choose to endanger a patron under their care, and continue employment with no disruption. Unfortunately, this is the only place in town. Otherwise, I’m sure they’d have to step up their game. Rental prices have been getting a bit steep, too. We took our last two kid parties somewhere else. Otherwise, they do have some great part-time staff members.
The Park District employees all care about making sure their programming suits as many Geneseo residents needs as possible. They offer a variety of programs, as well as an updated gym and training area. Shannon Port offers amazing fitness classes that I've never been disappointed in. My daughters have both been in the gymnastics program there and use both the indoor and outdoor pool frequently throughout the year. I've played the volleyball leagues and done other activities through their programming as well. For a small community, Geneseo is lucky to have this gem.
I had my 7 year old birthday party here and it was terrible! I showed up and nothing was done 20 min prior to the party. They were suppose to set up and tare down. There also wasn’t an instructor available due to a gymnastics competition. I would have preferred to switch the theme if this would have been communicated to me (they were aware in advance. I have asked around and I’m not the only one that has had disorganized issues. They have a variety of classes but not a lot of feasible times for working families. The front desk people are always friendly and the facility is clean. Variety of things to do such as cardio, basketball, life fitness room etc. Needs organization for the birthday parties and would like later classes available. Update: after writing this google review I received an email and phone call and I did receive a partial refund for the party. Note I did an internal survey prior to this review.
Excellent updated workout facility, plenty of space for events of all kinds. Staff is great to work with. The pools are a big hit as well! The Geneseo Park District offers many classes and programs for everyone. This is a great resource in the Geneseo community and I recommend seeing what they have to offer!
