The specific temperatures for the pools at Altoona Aquatics Park are not publicly detailed. What are people saying (AI review summary)? The water park elicits mixed feedback. Positive aspects frequently highlighted include its fun and family-friendly atmosphere, particularly on weekdays, with good concessions and open areas for sunbathers. Many commend the lifeguards for being attentive, highly responsive to emergencies, and conducting swim tests for safety, with one lifeguard, Jordan, specifically noted for outstanding service. Some front counter staff are also praised for being nice and helpful. Conversely, there are significant negative points: some admission staff are described as rude, unfriendly, and unhelpful. More critically, certain lifeguards are accused of being rude, on a 'power trip,' inconsistent in enforcing rules, excessively using whistles, and unfairly targeting specific children, leading to distress. Other complaints include a decline in cleanliness with dirty water and ants, and the policy of charging full admission for non-swimming parents/caregivers. These issues have led some patrons to state they will no longer visit.

The pool and life guards were very good. They were very attentive. The girl that takes admission was just plain rude and unfriendly. No smile, no hello, no please, thank you. We had never been there before and she couldn't even tell us where we needed to go. Simply no manners! There on a Tuesday.
This place hasn't changed a bit since I was a teenager. What was reassuring is when there was any kind of emergency, a child falling on the concrete, something floating in the water, unlocated child, ALL lifeguards jump into action to assist and make sure whoever or whatever is taken care of as fast as possible. If there is an emergency, the paramedics are less than a block away. They don't do pool checks every hour so there's no out of the pool for 10-15 min and explaining to your kids why there's a perfectly good pool sitting empty waiting to be played in while the lifeguards just stare back at you. The lifeguards make the smaller kids do a swim test to prove they can swim in the deeper ends, and the truly deep end (10ft) where the drop slide and diving board are.
My family came here back in July and had an amazing experience. Today, it was completely different. The staff are rude and on a power trip, blowing the whistle for every little thing my kids did. My daughter was so distraught because they continually blew their whistle for dumb reasons, especially when other kids were acting/doing the same thing. My daughter was allowed to go down the bigger slides numerous times… until a life guard change. Then she was denied because she is exactly 48 inches tall. The facility is nice, it’s a shame the life guards are so aggressive and targeting of specific children. They blew their whistle for my son walking to fast, and standing over the water sprinkler, and the animals, the bumble bee, there’s so sign saying you can’t sit on it, my son got the whistle blown at him while other kids did the same thing, yet the life guards didn’t say anything to them. It’s a shame that it has to be like this, we would have continued coming back, but after my daughter left with tears in her eyes because the life guards continually yelled her, we will find another park.
This is a super fun, family friendly water/splash park. Weekdays are terrific for family, especithose with small child. Stay away on the weekends. The front counter staff are super nice, courteous, and helpful. Most of the lifeguards are super nice and friendly. Most are very observant and paying attention. Jordan is such an amazing lifeguard. She was outstanding, super observant, friendly and courteous. Overall, I would feel safe with my little ones here. There is an island and open grassy area for Sun bathers. The concessions are nice. Provides plenty of goodies and a variety of snacks. Overall it's a fun, family Waterpark to escape the hot and super humid iowa heat.
It's going downhill, real fast. The water is dirtier every time I go, there are ants everywhere because people are allowed to eat out of the concession area, even the lifeguards, and they even charge parents/caregivers who clearly aren't swimming but have to be there because of, well, their kids entry fee, not a discounted one either. We will start going to Carlisle.
