Public swimming area formed by a dam across Chico Creek, with picnic areas and playgrounds.
As a natural body of water fed by Big Chico Creek, Sycamore Pool's temperature is not controlled and varies with the seasons. It is generally known for its cool and refreshing water, often ranging from the low 60s to low 70s Fahrenheit during the warmer summer months, depending on ambient air temperatures and creek flow.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? Sycamore Pool is widely regarded as a beautiful and refreshing public park, often described as a 'gem' or 'hidden oasis' with lush greenery and ample shade, making it ideal for families and swimming. Many appreciate its spaciousness, allowing for social distancing. However, multiple reviews express significant concern over confirmed dangerous levels of E-coli, with some strongly advising against swimming due to a current outbreak. This contradicts other reviews that praise the water as clean and crystal-clear. Additionally, one reviewer noted the public bathrooms were in very poor, unkempt condition.

What a great concept for a very needed free public park for families to cool off and enjoy the gorgeous surroundings of shaded trees. We wanted to come check it out but were disappointed to see several caution signs revealing the fact that there has been confirmed dangerous levels of e-coli. Very sad to have such a gem in this city but ruined by whatever is causing this problem. We saw many still swimming, you would think if it was totally dangerous that they would have caution tape all around .
Sycamore Pool is an absolute gem in Chico, CA! This hidden oasis in Lower Bidwell Park is a must-visit during the summer. The crystal-clear waters surrounded by lush greenery create a stunning natural setting. The atmosphere here is incredibly relaxing, and it's perfect for a family outing or a peaceful day by the water. The water is refreshing and clean, making it ideal for swimming. There are also picnic areas nearby, making it a great spot for a picnic with friends and family. I appreciate the efforts made to maintain the park, as it's always clean and well-kept. The staff is friendly and helpful, ensuring a pleasant experience for everyone. Whether you're a local or just passing through Chico, Sycamore Pool is a hidden paradise that you won't want to miss. It's a fantastic place to connect with nature and escape the summer heat. Highly recommended! 🌿💦🌞
This is just incredible! Due to the pandemic this pool is great because it's very wide and you'd have plenty of space to social distance. We went on a very hot, humid day and the water wasn't too cold, it was just right. It was very cooling and enjoyable. There was lots of shade as well, very nice. Although the public bathrooms were horrendous, very old and shabby, no mirrors either, it looked like they haven't been cared for in my opinion. Besides that I wish I had know about this place the first time I visited California. It was very enjoyable and fun~!
Amazing, as a former competitive swimmer I have to try swimming everywhere I go and this was an amazing experience. Just passing through from Canada on our way to Lassen National park.
Great pool. Other than the ecoli outbreak right now. Would not recommend swimming.
