About

The BYU–Idaho Hart Swimming Pool, located within the John W. Hart Physical Education Building at 311 S 1st W, Rexburg, ID, is a comprehensive aquatic facility serving BYU–Idaho students, faculty, staff, and the community. It features multiple pools designed for various activities, including lap swimming, open recreation, swim lessons, and water-based fitness programs. The facility supports both competitive and recreational aquatic needs.

The facility typically maintains different temperatures for its distinct pools. The lap pool is generally kept cooler, often around 80-82°F (26.7-27.8°C), suitable for vigorous swimming. A warmer leisure or recreation pool is usually maintained at a higher temperature, approximately 88-90°F (31.1-32.2°C), ideal for children, therapeutic use, and more relaxed activities.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? This pool offers various activities like water polo, swimming, and classes, and is equipped with a diving board, noodles, and kickboards, making it suitable for both enjoyment and exercise. However, several issues detract from the experience: it is often overcrowded, especially during limited lap swim hours (5-7 am), which can interfere with serious swimmers. There are frequent reliability problems, including unexpected closures due to 'chemicals' despite the schedule, and a heater that often breaks. Significant safety concerns were also raised, noting understaffing with only one lifeguard on duty who gets distracted, and a perceived lack of adequate safety practices.

I had a lot of fun playing water polo, swimming, life-guarding,and taking classes at this pool!

Often overcrowded, and the people that treat it like a public pool often get in the way of the people who want to swim for exercise. It's a good pool, though. I enjoy exercising here. The heater often breaks though, so be prepared to warm yourself up by swimming hard!

There is not much time or space for lap swim, which is pretty much only from 5-7am. It’s ridiculously overcrowded during that time. There’s usually only one lifeguard on duty at a time. When I asked the guard a question tonight, she stopped watching her (very busy) water to talk to me. I asked if there was anyone in the guard room to talk to (so she wouldn’t be distracted). She said no. I think the safety practices here need to be re-evaluated.

Great pool, however the schedule can’t be trusted. Seems like more often than not it’s closed cause of “chemicals” even when the schedule shows open. Frustrating.

A nice indoor pool to use during the summer. You can use it for enjoyment, or exercise. They have a basketball hoop, pool noodles, kick boards, and a diving board that goes into 16 feet deep water.
