Excellent staff and very professional! Course is immaculate! Greens started quick and for quicker during the morning. It's just too hot in Williamsburg today...
We spent this week in Williamsburg golfing. The time I spent with my buddies on 2 of their courses was well enjoyed. The club house restaurant had delicious options and the staff was very attentive. Blue Heron was in crazy good condition. Black Heath could use some water from the sprinkler because the ground was hard as heck. Otherwise the greens were super smooth and I give a total hats off to the staff and club.
We played 18 holes yesterday on the Blue Heron course and had a fantastic time. The course was in great shape, and the staff both in the pro shop and out on the course were absolutely phenomenal—friendly, professional, and welcoming. Everything about the golf experience itself was top-notch. The only downside came when we stopped at the bar for a drink before heading out. Unfortunately, the Old Fashioned was one of the worst we’ve had, and at $39.99 with tax for two drinks (before tip), we expected much better. It was served in a small rocks glass with standard cubed ice, the cherry and orange were muddled together, the sweetener used was overly syrupy, and the bitters were far too strong. On top of that, the drink wasn’t balanced—the alcohol sat on top, while the syrup settled at the bottom. It might just have been how it was made that day, but it didn’t reflect the same level of quality as the golf experience. Overall, I’d highly recommend Ford’s Colony for the golf and staff—just maybe stick to beer or wine at the bar.
We played the black heath course today, and while the greens and fairways are in great shape, the quality of service was not there. There should be a starter at each course, not out where the pro shop is. The starter gave us the go ahead only to find there was a group at the tee box waiting, and another group came to tee off at the same time as us. It felt like groups were just teeing off as they pleased. As a local WBurg resident, there are better options.
This country club offers everything - clubhouse, restaurants, driving range (mats), top quality carts, and two semi-private courses (we played Blue Heron). The course was a lot of fun to play, with good challenges around every corner, but a very playable course that was in really good condition for early spring. the bar and restaurant offered great drinks and good dinner specials for after the round. Definitely a great place to start the season.
