What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews paint a mixed but predominantly negative picture of the facility. On the positive side, members praise the excellent steam room, clean environment, nice pool, and the helpfulness of some front desk staff, including a pre-visit phone contact. However, significant concerns emerge across multiple reviews: a severe security issue with belongings frequently stolen from locked lockers, which staff acknowledge is a common problem without proactive warnings; unreliable childcare services with frequent, uncommunicated closures; and highly unprofessional, unmannered, and unhelpful staff, particularly one named April, leading to frustrating experiences, difficult membership cancellations, and feelings of being verbally abused or 'stolen from'. Members also report vital amenities like the therapy pool and diving board often being unavailable due to staffing shortages, diminishing the value of their membership. There's also a suggestion for better maintenance of workout machines.

Best steam room I've ever used. Super hot and felt amazing - sit farther away if you don't like the heat ;) Front desk staff was friendly. Doug answered all my questions very thoroughly over the phone before I drove down. Pool was very nice. Everything was quite clean and professional looking.
the staff are very friendly and helpful, but this is not a safe place for your belongings. my gym bag was stolen out of a locker, with a lock on it, during my workout. when i went to the front desk to tell them, they gasped and said “oh my gosh, that’s three in a row!”… that is not what you want to hear. after filing a police report and being stranded there for hours because my keys were stolen, the staff told me that the lockers are broken into “all the time” and that the cops won’t even come out to make reports because they get so many calls to the place. while i completely understand cameras can’t be placed in the locker rooms, if i were told about this beforehand i never would have used the lockers in the first place. i’m now having to pay over $300 to have my car keys replaced, and lost an important keychain that i’ll never get back. i’m not sure if extra security or bag checks would help this problem, but i’m very upset at the situation and am hesitant to come back.
I'm very frustrated with the lack of communication about childcare. The main reason why I have a membership for the YMCA instead of Planet Fitness is because they have childcare options but it seems like every other time I go to take my child to the childcare room, it's closed. Today, I got myself and my son all the way there, just to get to the room to find a paper on the door that says they're closed on Friday nights and Saturdays for the entire summer. No one at the front desk even mentioned anything when I checked in. Other times, they've been closed because the childcare person just didn't show up that day. What's the point of paying $100/month for a membership if I can't even use it?
I am a member of the local Y, It is a good place to work out but there are things that need improvement. They should really give a free membership to a couple retired guys to do maintenance on the machines because it would eliminate down time when things break.
The lead guard/ swim instructor, April is extremely unprofessional, even when dealing with full-service respectful members she is extremely edgy. I honestly feel like I’ve been verbally abused by April numerous times because she can’t handle her job. Although the staff is degrading immensely, My family and I love the therapy pool! They have a problem keeping lifeguards right now so nine out of 10 times we can’t use the therapy pool anymore. That is the main reason we have our membership. And when you try to cancel your membership you have to pay for a another month to cancel and some because they CANNOT do their jobs! I put in for a cancellation three weeks prior to actually getting the cancellation which I had to pay a month from their three week slack. At this point we don’t want to come back but we had to pay anyway for their slack. So I had to pay for five weeks that I didn’t use because I was extremely offended by the staff and the services. My younger kids would normally hang out in the shallow end with my wife while my oldest son and I go to the deep end when we are lucky to use our paid services. I also like using the diving board( which is never available for members anymore? I especially like spending 5mins in hot tub then swimming a couple laps back and fourth 3 to 5 times. This one time there was a couple of disrespectful teen girls in the hot tub without adult supervision which they’re not allowed to be even with supervision, being disrespectful in the hot tub. I told April and she asked me to tell a young guard to reprimand them.🤔Although they have great equipment, the staff is unmannered and unprofessional. Services are okay, overall but they have a shoddy staff currently to say the the least. Not to mention they penalize responsible parents and let irresponsible parents get away with anything! I have been using the Lima YMCA for more than five years. I used to really like and appreciate this local resource. Anyway I’ll pay for their added unused 6 weeks but I won’t use their services because they’re frustrating and unhelpful! I’ve had no problem donating to the Y in the past but I feel like they stole from me through irresponsibility of staff. I spoke with Terry a couple times and got no where.
