What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for this community pool are mixed. While some patrons express strong positive sentiments, cherishing it as a "small town pool" they grew up with, calling it "wonderful," "nice," "well maintained," and even the "best outdoor pool," others highlight significant areas for improvement. Criticisms include incorrect operating hours listed online, unresponsive and seemingly untrained lifeguards (especially concerning first aid), inconsistent or unclear pool rules (e.g., regarding life jackets on diving boards and slide height restrictions), and very cold showers. One detailed review suggests that if visiting the area, a nearby larger facility in Storm Lake might offer a better experience for families.

We are visiting from a suburb of Kansas City, so in comparison, a much larger town than Ida Grove. First thing, Google has their hours listed from 1 to 6 pm and they actually close at 5 pm. So my boys (ages 2 and 4) were frustrated about that, but not their fault. When we walked in, there were about 8 lifeguards sitting in the office just eating and chatting. No one said hello, after about 30 seconds I said "excuse me, we're from out of town, unsure if we need to pay anything or if it's free?" One lifeguard finally approached the counter and asked if the boys would just be in the kiddie pool. I told her they'd use the slides and diving boards if allowed. She said ok, it's $2. Easy enough, definitely not complaining about the price! We went it, got ready, life jackets on and started venturing around the pool. I noticed a lifeguard sitting with her back turned to the diving boards, never turning to look at that area, and countless boys jumping and flipping every which way and no one batted an eye. There are no rules listed (other than ironically no horseplay) So I walked my boys to the end of the line and let them walk out to the end and jump off. We were told that they can't jump off the diving boards because their insurance won't cover them jumping off in life jackets. But flips and boys hanging from the end of the board is covered 🤷‍♀️. We then were told that the boys weren't tall enough to slide down the slides. So another bummer. We went to the baby pool and the boys were having a good time. Unfortunately my 2 year old slipped on the slide and really bloodied his nose. I very calmly walked to the lifeguards sitting in the office, again, no one said anything as I walked up. Once someone noticed a very bloody face and chest they became pretty startled. I just asked if they had any towels to help me get the bleeding stopped and blood cleaned off my son. Eventually I got some paper towels and all was fine. Luckily it wasn't a big accident because I didn't feel like they were at all trained in first aid or water safety. Just some high school kids who want a summer job. Overall, if you're visiting this area, drive the extra 40 minutes and go to King's Pointe in Storm Lake. You'll have and indoor and outdoor pool with multiple slides, ability to keep your kids in their life jackets and still enjoy the diving boards and slides as a family. If you're new in town and just need a place to get wet, this place is that.

It was wonderful. I grew up swimming there in the summer when I was little.
