About

Sprawling facility offering a fitness center along with a pool, plus basketball and volleyball courts.

The South County YMCA features two main pool areas: a lap pool and a warm water leisure pool. The lap pool is typically maintained at a cooler temperature, generally around 80-82°F (26-28°C), ideal for swimming laps and aquatic fitness. The warm water leisure pool is kept at a higher, more comfortable temperature, typically around 88-90°F (31-32°C), suitable for relaxation, family activities, and therapy.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? The YMCA receives mixed feedback, with several positive experiences overshadowed by significant criticisms. One reviewer highly praised a Silver Sneakers Yoga class for its inspiring instruction, accommodating teacher, and welcoming atmosphere. However, multiple reviews detail serious issues, including poor accessibility for handicap persons due to misused shower facilities and unhelpful staff, as well as a disappointing swim lesson experience characterized by a lack of guidance, an inattentive instructor, and inconvenient changing rooms. Additionally, concerns were raised about the lack of safety features (panic buttons) in new family showers. Staff attitude was a recurring negative theme, with a lifeguard verbally attacking a member over accessibility complaints and a director described as rude and condescending while enforcing a membership cancellation policy perceived as unfair and a 'ploy' for extra payment.

Just participated in Silver Sneakers Yoga class with Teacher Crystal Lawrence. First post-pandemic return to the Y. Fun and inspiring class led by a great fitness educator who verbally instructs and demonstrates how to successfully perform the moves, while reinforcing the need to listen to YOUR body and modify the intensity as needed. Upon entering the studio,Miss Linda (a delightful Y Volunteer and classmate) greeted and welcomed me to the class. Thanks for an encouraging first class. Karen

This YMCA isn’t set up for handicap persons . While they have shower benches they’re always being used to store individuals clothes and not for the showers. The only warm shower is the handicap shower therefore it’s always in use by non handicap persons. The universal changing rooms are tied up by older women lap swimming leaving no bathrooms to use. The staff laugh and tell you to just go into the rooms where the individuals leave their belongings. When I brought It to the attention of Barb the life guard she attacked me verbally stating the women were old and can do what they want. Not a good place for handicap otherwise nice place to work out.

Really disappointed in this experience. We signed up for a swim lesson for our three year old. We got there and they walked us to the pool area, but the help stopped there. No one gave us a tour or explained what to expect. I had to walk up to a couple different swim instructors until I found the right class. There was no run-down of what to expect, so I showed up in my swimsuit, but then looked around and saw no other parents in their swimsuits. The instructor expected my child to get in the pool and it was clear she didn’t know how to coax her in, which was surprising since it was called “Water acclimation.” One of the kids started going under and swallowed too much water. Her dad had to come over and rescue her because the instructor didn’t notice. After the lesson, there was a co-ed locker room we had to use to change clothes. We haven’t been back since and no one from the Y has reached out to inquire as to why. I would not recommend this to any parents. We went to Goldfish Swim today and it was an entirely different experience. Go there if you want swim lessons!

I like the location because it's a few minutes from my lodge. I like the new family showers, but they have no panic button. You can imagine the workout and showers with a stroke or heart attack and no way to get help. I'll risk it. Good handicapped parking lot and parking. It's not bad after snow and ice on 21 February 2025 but beware.

Martin Caupp is apparently the director at this location and is utterly rude and condescending. I came in on the 23rd of a month to cancel my membership and he informed me that it is corporate policy that after the 20th of a month, you have to pay for an entire extra month!! What kind of policy is this? It is a clear ploy to gain an entire extra month of payment. It is 2025, everything is online. He said "I don't make the policy I just enforce them, like he is a cop! It's they Y, I want to cancel and now I have to pay for an entire extra month. The guy was rude arrogant and should not represent the Y.
