About

Fitness center with an indoor track, a pool, and a sauna, plus group classes.

The New Jersey Athletic Club generally offers multiple indoor pools. These typically include a main lap pool, which is usually maintained at a cooler temperature suitable for swimming laps and strenuous activity (often around 78-82°F / 25.5-27.8°C), and a separate warm water therapy or recreational pool, kept at a higher temperature for comfort, relaxation, and rehabilitation purposes (frequently in the range of 88-92°F / 31.1-33.3°C).

As a guest of NJAC, I have every right to share my honest experience and impressions of the facility—and unfortunately, they were deeply disappointing. The gym feels outdated and neglected. Much of the equipment shows visible signs of wear, the atmosphere lacks energy or motivation, and the overall environment does not reflect the standards of a modern, well-maintained fitness center. Most concerning, however, was the attitude and demeanor of some of the staff and members, which came across as unwelcoming, dismissive, and even rude—creating an uncomfortable space for newcomers or casual gym-goers. What truly alarmed me was the gym’s response to my feedback. Rather than taking accountability or expressing a willingness to improve, they chose to deflect criticism and imply that the issue lies with me personally—a tactic that raises serious ethical concerns. Suggesting that the problem may be a “pattern” with the reviewer, rather than acknowledging legitimate concerns, is not only unprofessional but also a red flag for how this establishment handles customer input. This kind of behavior prompts me to recommend that the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs and relevant local authorities further investigate the gym’s business practices, customer service standards, and treatment of guests. No individual providing fair and honest feedback should be met with defensiveness or character judgments. I stand by every observation made about this gym, and I strongly encourage others to consider alternative fitness centers that foster respect, inclusivity, and a genuine commitment to quality and community.

Great space and so Much potential to be a great gym. Old equipment with a number of machines not working and equipment on the top floor terribly positioned looking into a classroom. I was just trying the place out. They took my $25 and I stayed about 15 minutes. Also they can spruce the place up with some decor and plants. Something to make it feel upscale. For the monthly price they quoted me I would expect a top of the line experience. Total disappointment. I was looking to upgrade from planet fitness but definitely not worth it.

I recently joined NJAC on a friend's recommendation and highly recommend it! The gym offers a variety of top-notch group fitness classes, from yoga to high-intensity training, catering to all levels and keeping workouts engaging. The facilities are excellent, and the atmosphere is welcoming. I want to give a special shout-out to Ryan Hobson, who guided me through the membership process. Ryan was incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and attentive, taking the time to answer all my questions thoroughly. His friendly approach and dedication made signing up a breeze and left a lasting positive impression. NJAC is a fantastic choice for anyone in the Princeton area and a supportive fitness community

I am mortified by the terrible customer service or lack of accountability from this facility. I recently signed up this gym. I was told by Ryan the membership rep that my monthly payment will be $70 dollars. There were no mentioned of any other fees or clear and conspicuous disclosure given to me of any payment options for a hidden fee. Come to find out they tried to charge me $75 dollars instead of what was in the contract that i signed. I called several times and left a message with a Holly for Ryan, but never got a call back. I even spoke with one of the ( trainer ) that works there, stating that i needed to resolve the issue with the billing. I was told he would pass on the message to Ryan. I visited the facility on September 6, Ryan was there. When asked about the extra charge, i was told by Ryan this is “New Jersey Sale Tax”.. I replied, “This was never disclosed to me during the sign up process, because i am “Tax Exempt”… His reply, oh well everyone has to pay that. I stated, “I don’t mind being required to pay taxes, but i will have to notify the “IRS” about the transaction as this is against my status. Ryan said that’s fine, “do what you have to do”.. There were no mentioned of “if i pay via cash or directly from my checking account, then i wouldn’t have to pay the extra fees. I visited the facility on September 9th requesting the business information on a W-9 so i can notify the “IRS”. I met Holly at the front desk. She told me the extra charge was not tax, it was a concession fee. I replied, “i don’t understand because none of that was disclosed to me during sign up, i even showed her my contract that stated $70 monthly payment.. while trying to explain to her, she started to talk over me and point me to a sign at the front desk showing me a fee notice. At this point I’m starting to get a little frustrated because yes you are showing me this now, but on the day of sign up “none of that was disclosed to me” and she’s also giving me different information than i was told. Then she goes “if you were to pay cash, then there will be no fee”.. but “ i actually can’t let you in right now because you don’t have a membership”.. Keep in mind the membership is due on the first of the month and today is the 9th of September, i have billing issue on the account i’m trying to resolve. I told her, if this is how you’re going to treat your members, then i have to terminate the contract for them failing to provide clear and conspicuous disclosure. Then the owner of the gym walked over started to raise his voice and talk over me in a very disrespectful tone and without taking the time to inquire about why i was frustrated with the misinformation/miscommunication that was provided to me. Very disrespectful showcase of professionalism towards his customer. My experience, along with the many others listed here are a proof of how this gym treat its members. I would definitely recommend you stay away from this facility if you want a terrible customer experience.

Honestly giving this gym a 3 is being nice. I’m a vibe workout type of person. The gym is DEAD I went around 3pm and it was dead dead and didn’t get busy the entire time I was there. If you like being along and no one to hype you up or keep up with then this is ok… HOWEVER. The equipment is very old and out of date. The dumbbells need an update the machines need an update and everything. It seems like this place is trying to compete with other gyms. Especially since it has a monthly cost of 80$ a month. It should be 25$ a month if you’re going to charge that much plus an enrollment fee and an annual fee you should maintain your gym. Not adding classes and studios and stuff like that but new equipment updated equipment and dumbbells. I just didn’t like it. If I’m going to spend 80$ a month I’ll join fusion gym or RWJ or anything else.
