Large fitness center offering an indoor pool and kid-focused water park, plus a gym and classes.
The Geauga Family YMCA features two distinct aquatic areas: a Lap Pool and a Warm Water Pool. While specific daily temperatures are not publicly listed, lap pools at such facilities are typically maintained at a cooler temperature, generally between 79-82°F (26-28°C), ideal for swimming laps and active exercise. The warm water pool, often used for therapy, lessons, and younger swimmers, is usually kept warmer, commonly in the range of 88-90°F (31-32°C).
What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for this YMCA are mixed, highlighting both positive and significant negative experiences. On the positive side, members praise friendly staff, the variety of programs offered for all age groups, and well-maintained, clean facilities. Specific mentions include thoughtful and challenging personal training, engaging group fitness classes like water aerobics, and well-organized senior activities. The pool and gym areas are generally appreciated for their amenities and equipment. However, there are strong complaints regarding inconsistent or overly strict rule enforcement, leading to members feeling harassed and, in one instance, being asked to leave over issues like weight handling and footwear. Major concerns were also raised about facility hygiene, with one review explicitly blaming the facility for illnesses like pink eye and pneumonia, citing old, cramped changing rooms. Another significant negative point is the use of shredded tires in the kids' play area, which some reviewers believe is unhealthy and unsafe.

The Y provides a variety of programs for all age groups. The facility is clean and well-cared for. I am a senior and enjoy the Silver Sneaker classes and activities. The AOA director, Diane, does a great job planning activities such as trips and speakers.
Personal trainer, Angela, is very thoughtful with my physical limitations, and always prepared to challenge me during our sessions. The water Aerobics class on Tuesday evenings is absolutely worth the time!! Very challenging.
My experience with this ymca is typically very positive, but while I was doing dumbbell bench with 95 lbs on each arm when I finished I put the weight down to the side of me, it was loud but how else am I getting the weight off of. One of the people come over and accused me of dropping the weight. A few minutes later they come back over and complained that my wife was wearing sandals I explained my wife had a problem with her foot at the time and could not wear shoes. I then asked could we be allowed to continue our work out the old lady said sure. We continued and then another woman comes up and tells us we have to leave. I do not spend money for my wife and I to be treated like this. I’m just going to assemble my own gym so I don’t have to deal with this nonsense.
Terrible! If you are alone with kids, safeguards will look at every step, toddlers running too fast, too slow and so on... If not Pink eye then pneumonia to all family!!! Terrible old style changing room, no space at all. They are using shredded tires coating in the kids play area, before fixing it , kids was always covered with some black spots. Now they 'fixed' it ... Guys shredded tires coating is not healthy at all! I hope some independent scientists finally do research about it to prove it, it is not safe. Nope nope nope! I spent 1k with all my family to recover from pneumonia! The staff is very friendly. We were just in the pool area.
Friendly staff, love the group fitness classes, nice pool area (you just have to juggle swim team and swim lesson times), big gym and nice workout area with lots of equipment.
