What are people saying (AI review summary)? This facility is generally appreciated for its historic charm, well-equipped spaces including a good weight room and an impressive pool with a strong swim instruction program, and a wide variety of equipment. Many members praise the friendly and helpful staff, especially in the weight room, and commend the quality of its camps and programs. However, there are significant criticisms regarding customer service, with multiple accounts of rude or unhelpful front desk staff, particularly concerning strict adherence to rules like entry times or past account balances, even for handicapped individuals. Parking is a commonly reported issue, alongside occasional crowding, and some find the locker rooms to be a bit dated.

I am handicapped I tried to get in at 7:58 am on June 8th and also through the handicapped entrance which I am.....they were inside but would not open the doors for me for being 2 minutes early.....I was forced to go back home and when I called the guy was very rude even when I said I was handicapped...
I've been a member for the last three months - 4-5 workouts per week. I really like the weight room - well organized and has what I need. The pool is fine - I really wish there was a second pace clock at the far end of the pool. The locker rooms are good - a bit tired but clean. What makes this place is the staff. Friendly and helpful. The team in the weight room is especially good. They will correct my form when correction is needed (which is often!). Highly recommended.
This past Sunday ,my 2 kids and friends of my children / parent's were told we were able to come in by day pass by phone unless that one of us had a member ship (friends parent does) .NOt only to find out because I had a balance with them from the past I wasent able to go into the facility underneath a day pass unless the balance is fully paid off .i offered if I was able to pay half today would me and ny kids be able to come in.,the man running the front desk was extremely rude and continued firmly "NO" not allowing my self and children in. My kids have gone here in the past we would have no issues going in despite my balance. Whether paid or not .the front desk use to be very friendly and kind. I'm not sure what happened to the ymca but the customer service that day was horrible and the man at the fron desk was just sooo rude.He should not be working there..
This location is well staffed, with lots of history and a quality exercise space. Multiple gyms that are cared for, an impressive pool with a robust and knowledgeable swim instruction program. Parking is a bit of a pain, though they are known to validate parking in the garage across the street. Loved this place as a kid and it's still good. Great camps and programs. Highly recommended.
The YMCA of Downtown Manchester is a beautiful historic facility with a wide variety of equipment for anyone in the family. Unfortunately crowding and parking are issues here.
