Today I visited Midtown as the guest of a friend that is a member. We took a Saturday morning Pilates class and it was challenging but energizing. I took a tour of the facility and enjoyed a smoothie at the cafe. It’s such a beautiful gym and there were so many different classes going on, I can tell there’s something for everyone! After returning home, I realized I had dropped my sunglasses in the parking lot. I called the front desk and a member had kindly turned them in! I wish I lived closer to their location because I would join in a heartbeat. I’m still considering it, but it would just be a long drive both ways. Grateful I was able to visit today though!
I was a member at Midtown years ago and, after moving away for a decade, I’ve come back several times as a guest with friends and family. The facilities themselves are beautiful. Midtown is a great choice for people who want a luxury gym experience—sauna, steam, classes, and a pleasant space to exercise. Personally, I find it less appealing for consistently structured workouts, but that’s more a matter of preference. What really disappointed me on this most recent visit was the customer service. From the moment I signed up as a visitor, the front desk staff were neither polite nor helpful. The check-in process felt cold and transactional, with no attempt to be welcoming. Later, when I approached with a question, I stood waiting—clearly trying to get their attention—for about two minutes while two employees finished their personal conversation. When I finally and politely interrupted, they reacted as if I had done something wrong. I also had a brief conversation with a gentleman in membership, and in only a few minutes he managed to imply—twice—that I was being dishonest. The tone was unnecessary and frankly unprofessional. This stood in contrast to past visits, where I’d had positive experiences, including as a member and even as a guest on a complimentary post-deployment pass. Unfortunately, this visit left me feeling unwelcome and disrespected. At Midtown’s price point, basic courtesy and professionalism should be the minimum standard. If I lived in Rochester, this experience alone would be enough to keep me from rejoining.
I love midtown so much I can’t even begin to describe….Truly the atmosphere, classes/instructors, amenities, sense of community, vibes and more are just so yummy for the mind, body, and soul. You feel so empowered and good about yourself when here or after spending time here. Shout out to Erin, Randi, Cari, Jason and all the other fabulous class instructors helping me expand my yoga / Pilate / cycling skills! Also shout out to Lydia and Chris at the front desk - they are always so kind and welcoming each and every day! Couldn’t recommend this club more to those looking to join!☺️🧘🏽♀️🙌🏾✨ Edit* ALSO if you’re looking for personal training talk to Ania!!! She’s THE best🏋🏾 and shout out to Barb and all the staff that help out esp in the women’s locker room. You guys are everything 🩷
We love it here! Favorite classes include Ignite, Vinyasa, Pilates, Boxing, Vibe Cycling, Les Mills Body pump, Barre and more! The sauna, steam room and hot tub are relaxing and rejuvenating. It’s a great community with wonderful staff. So happy to be a Midtown Member.
I really want to give this club five stars — the facility is beautiful, and the remodel they completed during COVID looks fantastic. They’ve clearly invested in creating a top-notch experience. That said, one major drawback is the lack of reciprocity with other clubs, which is disappointing for a facility of this caliber. Additionally, they don’t offer any kind of guest passes for out-of-town visitors — not even at a premium price point. Unless you’re a guest of a current member, there’s simply no way to access the club during your visit, which is frustrating for travelers from other high-end areas who want to keep up with their fitness routine. The family restroom also didn’t seem to get a facelift. Which I noticed as I watched a full grown 60+ man walk out of a kids restroom as I changed my under 9yo daughter into a bathing suit (big no no to be in that room with no children of your own) Midtown should take a meaningful look at measures for the safety of children that are in their facility bathroom. All that said, I had a really nice experience in the workout class. The facility is overall very beautiful, almost all my interactions with the staff were very very pleasant. I hope they offer a proper option for a travel pass going forward.
