The Arthur J. Glatfelter YMCA, located at 90 N Newberry St, York, PA, is a comprehensive community center offering a wide array of programs and facilities designed for all ages. It typically includes fitness centers, group exercise studios, gymnasiums, and aquatic facilities, focusing on promoting healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility within the York community.
The facility generally maintains its lap pools at temperatures ranging from 79-82°F (26-28°C) suitable for athletic swimming. For warmer, more therapeutic or instructional activities, specialized pools are typically kept at higher temperatures, often around 88-90°F (31-32°C).
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews offer a mixed perspective of the Y. Positive feedback highlights excellent instructors, specifically mentioning Cori for BodyPump classes, who is praised for being talented, motivating, and skilled at correcting form, leading to enjoyable and effective workouts. Some members also appreciate the classes and the overall experience, wishing for more class availability. One long-term member found the staff friendly and facilities clean. However, significant concerns were raised regarding customer service, particularly one incident where a staff member was highly unprofessional during a phone call, engaging in inappropriate conversations, misdirecting calls, and ultimately hanging up on the caller. Other criticisms include the perception of high household membership costs ($90/month) as excessive, an outdated facility with grungy locker rooms (though one reviewer found facilities clean), and some staff being unwelcoming or using inappropriate language around children.

Took a class (BodyPump) with Cori (kori?) 7/23/25 (who lives 2 hours away???) Absolutely incredible. Talented and gifted coach and teacher. Extremely motivating and fun. Excellent eye for correcting bad form and encouraging changes. A wonderful experience. Love taking classes at the Y. I just wish there were more throughout the day, the workout is a blast and you feel amazing afterwards.
On February 3rd, I called around 11:50 AM. A lady answered and asked if I could hold. I replied, "Sure." However, instead of putting me on hold, she continued a conversation with a person named Frank about inappropriate topics for about 10 minutes. During this time, I repeatedly tried to get her attention by saying, "Hi... Hello," but to no avail. When Frank finally left, she realized I was still on the line and, for some reason, transferred me to the men's housing department, which I wasn't even aware existed. I then asked the gentleman in that department to transfer me back to the front desk. I waited on the line for 5 minutes, but no one picked up. I hung up and called again, and when the same lady answered, she hung up the phone immediately. This lady needs to be fired as soon as possible! Her lack of professionalism and manners is completely unacceptable.
Pretty old and outdated facility. Adequate parking. Staff is friendly. Locker rooms are really grungy.
Have been going here for about 2 years. Friendly staff, clean facilities.
There household memberships are too expensive . It’s awesome that kids can come here and distract themselves for a couple of hours , definitely way better than them being out on the street somewhere . . . But 90 a month ? I don’t see how this helps the community at all . It’s really greedy , then they have workers in there that don’t even say hello when you walk in , if you going to be making your community poor at least educate your employees to be more welcoming to every and anyone especially those who paying . Cussing around small children smh . Ghetto .
