Union College Alumni Gym, located at 807 Union St, Schenectady, NY, serves as a key fitness and athletic facility for the college. It typically houses a main gymnasium, a fitness center equipped with cardio and strength training equipment, and locker rooms, catering to the exercise and recreational needs of students and alumni.
The Alumni Gym itself does not house a swimming pool. The main swimming pool for Union College (Wallace Pool) is located in the separate Memorial Field House athletic complex, therefore, no pool temperature information is applicable to the Alumni Gym.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The Union College athletic facilities are generally well-regarded, offering a good environment for various activities. The pool is a nice, well-maintained facility, approximately 45 yards long with a movable bulkhead and diving boards, an updated locker room, and observation areas, making it a lovely place for practice. However, spectator comfort can be challenging due to steep, close-quarters seating, a tight deck, and a confusing path to the locker rooms. Parking on campus is also noted as difficult. The squash courts are highlighted as the only courts in town, clean, and equipped with up-to-date gear. The gym is praised as a great place to work out, featuring cardio and muscle-group training machines, a dedicated weight training area, helpful staff, and no reported waiting for machines, particularly recommended for students and alumni.

This is the college pool for Union college. My daughter swims on a swim team who uses this pool for practice, so we are here a few times a week. It's a nice pool with a length of roughly 45 yards with a bulkhead that can be moved to change the length of the pool. There are 3 alternating sized diving boards. There is a bleacher area for spectators & an observation deck outside the pool with couches in which one can sit & have a great view.
Not sure why you are looking at a review of this place, but I like it. I play squash here at least once a week, mostly because they have the only courts in town. Clean, up to date equipment and plenty of heavy things to be lifted if that is what you do. If, on the other hand, you are a refined person and know how to play squash, I'm always looking for partners to play there.
The pool here is a nice facility, with an updated locker room and the construction around it is finished. It's a lovely place for practice. However, the seating is steep and close quarters, the deck is tight, and getting to the locker room is a maze. Parking is always an adventure on the Union campus-- there's a small row for vehicles in front of the facility, but otherwise, you're looking for a lot on campus and wondering "is this ok? Can I park here?" (This has gotten tougher with construction in the area ~10/24/22) Before the pandemic, all of these traits made it a charming inconvenience when you came to watch a meet for a cozily uncomfortable 3ish hours. I'd keep the rating even now, because the kids said they had plenty of room as they competed at Region 1 this weekend. Even when we go back to regular spectating for meets, this site will keep its cramped shine.
Great gym! Excellent place to work out. If you’re a student or alumnus, I highly recommend. Half of the first floor has cardio machines, as well as muscle group training machines. On the bottom floor you’ll find the weight training area.
Very nice gym to do your workouts. The staff were very helpful and I didn't have to wait for a machine. Thanks again!
