Spacious fitness center (a Y) featuring pools, cardio machines, a sauna and group classes.
The facility usually features multiple pools. The lap or program pool is typically maintained at a temperature ranging from 80-82°F, suitable for lap swimming and water exercise. A warmer recreation or family pool is often kept around 86-88°F, ideal for swim lessons, family fun, and therapeutic use.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews present a mixed but predominantly negative view of the YMCA, highlighting significant concerns about maintenance, customer service, and value. While some members praise the facilities for families and appreciate helpful staff during tours, a common sentiment is that the YMCA has declined, particularly since COVID-19. Repeated issues include broken or dirty saunas, an inconsistently working hot tub, unclean pool water, and persistent pest problems (flies in locker rooms). Members are also frustrated by increased monthly fees, the discontinuation of amenities like free towels, and a lack of membership discounts despite prolonged facility closures (e.g., the pool for months). A particularly distressing account details a child's traumatic swimming class experience at the North Andover location due to registration errors, unprofessional and unwelcoming instructor behavior, and poor hygiene, leading to membership cancellation. Suggestions for improvement include specific gym equipment additions, more mirrors and turf space, and investment in an outdoor pool. Overall, many users describe disorganization, poor communication, and a lack of empathy, suggesting the YMCA has gone downhill.

I currently come to the YMCA for their gym and mainly workout upstairs. Some feedback I’d like to give is possibly going back to their old hip thrust machine and getting at least one swift machine. I prefer to do RDLs on the swift instead of a squat rack. I also would love if instead of the extra cardio machines upstairs they could put back up the mirrors they had before, making more room for a bigger turf to stretch and do ab workouts. :)
I’m deeply disappointed with the YMCA in North Andover. My 4-year-old son was initially registered for a swimming class, but due to their error, he was mistakenly placed in an infant class. As a result, he missed two full seasons of instruction. When I asked to have him moved to the correct preschool class, the front desk processed the change. However, the instructors initially refused to accept him and even questioned my 4-year-old why he had been added late—completely inappropriate and unprofessional behavior toward a young child. After a tense and frustrating exchange, they reluctantly allowed him in, but the staff continued to act cold, rude, and unwelcoming. My son was understandably nervous at first, as many young children are in new environments. Rather than supporting or encouraging him, the staff's attitude only intensified his anxiety. Instead of helping him build confidence in the water, their harsh and dismissive behavior turned the experience into a traumatic one. What should have been a fun and positive learning opportunity became an emotionally distressing situation, leaving him scared and unwilling to return to the pool at all. Additionally, the water was visibly dirty during multiple visits, which raised serious concerns about hygiene and safety. It was clear that cleanliness was not being maintained to an acceptable standard. Combined with the disorganized registration process, poor communication, and complete lack of empathy, the entire experience was incredibly stressful and disheartening. Overall, this has been a terrible experience for both me and my son. I have to cancel my membership, it was just a waste of time and money. If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would.
This YMCA is one of the best I’ve ever seen. However after COVID things changed. They used to offer free towels and they don’t do anymore. Sauna has been broken forever. How come they can’t fix it? Hot tub is same thing, working one day and closed for couple days. Dry sauna on men’s locker room is always dirty. Monthly plans went up sky high.
Pool has been closed for months and no discounts offered for membership. Flys everywhere in the mens locker-room. I made sure to write a complaint about this and more flys than ever 2 years later. This Y has potential, but I've heard it's went downhill over the years. It's a large area, they should have invested in an outdoor pool.
Linda gaves us the guide tour. Nice facilities to get the work done. If you are looking for a family gym, this is your best best around.
