Many patrons report problems with facility maintenance, including dirty and broken equipment, unreplenished supplies (like paper and soap), and poor fan placement. Staff behavior is frequently criticized for being unprofessional, unhelpful, gossiping, rigid with rules (e.g., not allowing re-entry for medication shortly after closing), and displaying a lack of patience, particularly in the child watch area where one staff member reportedly yelled at a young child. Operational concerns include reduced weekend hours, short notice for closings, and unexpected Sunday closures for staff days. However, the toddler swim program is consistently lauded as 'fantastic,' praised for its clean facilities, excellent, friendly, and informative instructors, and its ability to provide a safe, fun, and effective learning environment for children. Additionally, one specific trainer, Derek, received high commendation.

Due to its location, Woburn YMCA location is bestowed with great potential to expand its customer base but faces some serious problems. Major issues: no attention by staff to the floor needs like really dirty equipment, sometimes not working with no sign posted, paper dispensers stay empty for hours, shower soap dispensers run out of soap - no one bothers to check etc., Several of them keep on gossiping with fellow staff when customers are waiting to connect to them, won't replace burnt ceiling bulbs, fans are often placed in obscure locations on floor when it is humid hot around bikes/treat mills area. Overall, customers feel they are at the mercy of the staff and so need to be nice to people operating the facility, NOT the other way!
This location used to be open till 730pm on weekends. Now its 6pm. I got a moments warning of things closing instead of a 30 or 15minute courtesy, like usual. As im standing outside for a rushed uber (in the rain), I realized I left my meds in my locker and the desk woman wouldn't budge in letting me back inside. Even though the door was still open and 2minutes before closing? Lame. Now i find out the gyms just completely closed for Sunday cause of a staff day? Just really frustrated rnow the lady didn't think of the customer first sorta thing, especially when its not open for the next 24hours. My Trainer made up for the 2star review. Derek's the man.
The YMCA swim program for toddlers is absolutely fantastic! My 2-year-old has been thriving in this environment, and it’s clear that a lot of thought and care go into the program. The facilities are always clean, well-maintained, and inviting, which makes every visit comfortable and stress-free. The instructors are truly the heart of the program—they’re informative, friendly, and approachable. They do an amazing job of making the kids feel at ease while also teaching them valuable skills in a fun and engaging way. I’ve been so impressed with how they balance safety and fun, ensuring that every child feels confident in the water while learning foundational swimming techniques. My child looks forward to swim class every week, and as a parent, it’s wonderful to see them enjoying the experience and progressing so quickly. I highly recommend the YMCA swim program to any parent looking for a welcoming, high-quality introduction to swimming for their little ones!
Terrible child watch. My 4 yr old kid went there for the first time and didn't fully understand the rules. She saw me outside and tried to open the gate to get out and show me her painting but got yelled at. She was shocked and asked why she can't open the gate. The lady simply yelled back ''because I said so''. I was right at the door when all of this happened and my kid cried for a long time. I almost called child abuse hotline. Absolutely lack of patience and she does not qualify for such a job.
The staff could really benefit from a retraining course—especially the older woman at the front desk. Her behavior was unprofessional and not representative of the kind of service you’d expect
