The Centennial Beach Lap Area, situated within Centennial Park at 500 Jackson Ave, Naperville, IL, is a dedicated section for lap swimming at the historic open-air swimming facility. Originally a stone quarry, Centennial Beach offers a unique, beach-like experience with large expanse of filtered and chlorinated water, providing a natural yet managed swimming environment.
The water in the Centennial Beach Lap Area, similar to the entire Centennial Beach facility, is unheated. Its temperature fluctuates naturally based on weather and ambient air conditions, generally offering a refreshing swim, especially earlier in the season.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The beach receives mixed reviews. Positives include beautiful water, cleanliness, and a dedicated area for lap swimming. Visitors appreciate being allowed to bring their own grills. However, the use of these grills leads to complaints about smoke and coal stench. Other negatives mentioned are a $20 day pass being considered a rip-off, strict bag checks for alcohol, and confusion regarding unexplained 'breaks' from the water.

The water is beautiful. The beach is clean. They are allowed to have their own grills. It is unpleasant. You lie there, breathe fresh air, and there is smoke and the stench of coal on all sides. I still don’t understand why they take breaks, as in childhood my parents said “get out of the water. Enter the water.” I didn't understand why, sorry. At the entrance, one girl is climbing through bags, looking for something, probably alcohol. You are not allowed to take alcohol with you.
Great beach in general for many reasons and do like that they reserve an area for people swimming laps only.
20 dollars day pass sounds like a rip off to me.
