I enrolled my son in British Swim School when he was a little over 12 months old. Initially, the experience was great—everyone was extremely welcoming, and I felt optimistic. However, as time went on, I noticed my son wasn’t making much progress in class. I recall attending a makeup class with Sandra where there was only one other child in the pool. Unfortunately, Sandra seemed to focus solely on that child, which left me feeling frustrated and neglected. I had a couple of conversations with the class leader about my son’s lack of progress and also mentioned that I don’t know how to swim myself, so I was unfamiliar with some techniques. On Mother’s Day, I attended another makeup class with Sandra. This time, there were several toddlers in the pool. She gave us a task to complete, and while I was trying to follow her instructions, she commented, “That was a little aggressive,” and even looked to the other instructor for confirmation. I was taken aback—I had no idea what I did wrong, and if I was doing something incorrectly, I would have appreciated her demonstrating the proper technique instead of making such a remark. It’s worth noting that my son, like many toddlers, isn’t always the most cooperative, but other instructors would kindly redirect or suggest an alternative approach. Sandra’s response, however, left me feeling humiliated. I couldn’t shake the feeling, and I ended up crying in class. I later spoke with the teacher lead coordinator about the interactions. Due to the limited staff and my unwillingness to work with Sandra again, I decided to leave the school.
