Community center and gym providing fitness classes, pools and an indoor track.
The indoor Lap Pool at the Monon Community Center is typically maintained at 80-81 degrees Fahrenheit. The indoor Leisure Pool, featuring various play elements, is generally kept warmer at 86-88 degrees Fahrenheit for visitor comfort.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The community center generally receives praise for its extensive amenities, including various pools (lap, kids with slides), basketball, racquetball courts, a jogging track, a playground, and a splash park, with many considering it a 'great facility,' particularly after recent renovations. However, the gym and weight training areas are heavily criticized for being consistently overcrowded, making it difficult to complete effective workouts, and for having a 'horrific' design, layout, and equipment for weightlifting. Furthermore, there are significant concerns about a severe deterioration in customer service, with reports of unkind and unprofessional staff, and management reportedly ignoring safety issues, leading long-term members to discontinue their memberships.

Carmel has a great community center. Lap pool for the adults, a big pool for kids with a beach like entry; even two water slides. Basketball, racquetball, jogging track, exercise equipment/weights. Nothing is left out. Outside they have a really good playground, and impressive splash park to cool off in the summer. Lots of classes and group activities. Really a great facility to take advantage of. It's extra nice since the renovations are complete.
Our family had been members since opening day and initially loved it. Over the years, the customer service has severely deteriorated. A recent unnerving experience with management just tipped the scale. It makes me really sad to write this because we’ve had many wonderful memories here but the staff is unkind and unprofessional. Additionally, they persistently ignore safety issues raised about equipment. So after 18 years of membership we decided to leave. It’s not worth the disrespect and there are better gyms. Invest your money and time elsewhere.
It's simply too crowded and busy to be able to do any meaningful workout. The weight training area with both free weights and machines is overrun with people. Either membership rates need to increase or the community center needs to expand the resistance training area to be larger with more machines. The crowding as it is right now is unsustainable to allow for a good experience as a member. I'd recommend people looking elsewhere if you're concerned about maintaining a proper routine without too much frustration.
Great facility across the board. Except for the gym…. It clearly was designed by someone who has never lifted weights a day in their life. The equipment, design, and layout is horrific for such a nice overarching facility.
I used my active&fit direct program and once I found out that this gym was available with the program, I mainly used this gym. Mostly because of the amenities included, pool, free weights, and after I could skate towards downtown Carmel. A really great place to go!
