What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for PTC present a mixed picture, highlighting both excellent facilities and significant operational challenges. Positively, the venue is praised as a nice, historic home suitable for various events, with good flow and inviting spaces. The sports facilities, including courts, a large pool, playground, and sandbox, are highly regarded, and specific tennis lessons, particularly with an instructor named Greg, receive commendations for improving students' skills and making lessons enjoyable. However, the club faces substantial criticism for its event coordination and summer camp. Event planning is described as highly unreliable, with a major incident involving a wedding reception cancellation one month prior due to multiple unexpected resignations of events coordinators and the chef, poor communication, and an inexperienced, unreachable staff. This led to a last-minute scramble for an alternative venue and considerable stress. The summer camp, despite good facilities, is criticized for very young and disengaged counselors who frequently use their phones, basic art activities conducted on the floor, and an unhygienic, disorganized indoor area for children's belongings. Recommendations for improvement include better staff supervision, a no-phone policy for counselors, improved organization (e.g., cubbies), and more creative activities. A minor point about parking lot size was also noted.

Went to a catered (non-tennis) event. Very nice place, parking lot could be bigger. Otherwise a nice place that seated a lot of people.
DO NOT host an event here. They cancelled our wedding reception 1 month before it was supposed to happen!!! The chef and events coordinator both quit unexpectedly just before our wedding, after months of us struggling to get in touch with them. (Second events coordinator to quit in 6 months). We booked the venue 10 months in advance. We loved the place, signed the contract, and got to planning. A few months, in as we tried to contact the events coordinator by phone and email, and no response for weeks. Finally we got in touch with the office who let us know he had been terminated suddenly. No one had notified us or given us a new person to contact. The second coordinator was even worse than the first. She’s a college student who worked 10 hours per week. She had never run events and was impossible to reach by email, call, text, anything. She was very immature and unreliable. We finally managed to come up for the food tasting and they served us the wrong dishes, not the ones we had wanted to sample. Simple questions like, “how big are your tables?” went unanswered for weeks, and it took her over two months and 5+ reminder phone calls to draw us up a final quote with our full headcount. We finally made contact with the manager, Greg, who tried to help but ultimately didn’t seem to have a handle on his staff. He said this young woman coordinator “ghosted” him and stopped showing up to work completely. No one had mentioned this to us… He was also blindsided when she resigned to the board, and he had no idea for weeks. I don’t know if they’re running out of money and can’t pay people, but their event staff were terrible and eventually all quit. The nail in the coffin happened when Greg called us to explain the chef was quitting and could not work our wedding, so we had no food. He had scrambled to find a new, much more expensive caterer who had never worked at the club and no one on staff had ever met or worked with before. We told him that we had signed a contract for an all inclusive venue, including food and servers, at the price originally quoted with the food we chose. He just gave us our deposit money back. Thankfully we ended up still having the wedding reception at a different venue, planned in about 3 weeks. But the 6 months leading up to the wedding were extremely stressful thanks to the unreliable service from PTC. We thought many times about calling the whole thing off the month before, but we were able to scramble and pull it off at a different venue.
Summer camp review only: Pros: I'd like to start off by saying the facilities are great. Plenty of courts, including indoor courts, large pool with a slide, playground and sandbox were also great. The kids had tennis lessons twice a day, one swim lesson and one free swim where they swim under supervision. Cons: The counselors are very young and very disengaged with the kids. There are a few who stand out (Layla and Billy being a few) but for the most part don't give off the energy that they want to be there at all. On a number of occasions, I have seen them scrolling on their phones when I come for pick up. My son also tells me they're on their phones quite often during the day. The art activity time was very basic. They would be handed out sheets of coloring paper and some markers and crayons and color on the floor. There were no tables set up indoors to accommodate activities, everything was done on the floor. Activities like making tie dye shirts consisted of my son picking three colors and the counselor doing the rest for him. Don't expect much outside tennis and swim. One very off putting but easily rectifiable issue I found was seeing the indoor facility where the kids would hang out between their activities and keep their belongings. Bags, wet towels, wet swimsuits, used clothes, goggles, water bottles and whatever else the kids brought to camp were thrown on the floor. Just piles of belongings scattered all over- I have no idea how the kids navigated to find their things. Not to mention extremely unhygienic. I was shocked when I saw it for the first time. For such a reputable club, their summer camp should uphold a similar reputation and standard. Organization in belongings (cubbies would be ideal), creative art activities, tables for activities, no phone policy for counselors during work hours, and at least 1 adult (over the age of 30) who supervises everyone and makes sure standards are upheld. As a tennis family, we were very excited and had high hopes for this club. Unfortunately that fell through with the camp. We signed up for 3 weeks but my son stopped wanting to attend after 2. Needless to say this caused a great deal of inconvenience for us as well as the loss of investment for the week we didnt use. Hopefully things improve over time- until then I cant say I would recommend the camp.
Very nice venue. Older historic home in the City of Poughkeepsie. Good flow, porch is inviting. Numerous uses from showers, office events, conferences, small weddings. You can do a lot with the space.
My son has been taking lessons here for just a few weeks and I already see a big improvement. What's even better, he come out of his lesson with Greg smiling and laughing. Best investment and I can't recommend Greg and PTC enough!
